35559 I love Boggle, but I haven't played it since I was a kid as no one else has wanted to play when the opportunity arose.

You all seem to have the monsters pretty much covered so for now, I'm just going to focus on finishing those BOMs. Afterwards I could start another 800+ page book in case we need one later but we will see what happens before I am ready to do that.

35559 I just finished It so we can claim the Minotaur as done now.

35559 I haven't got as far with It as I would have liked. I've been very tired and time has just flown by. I'll do my best to finish it over the weekend. Then I will focus on the BOMs I have as their deadlines are fast approaching.
35559 A House for a Mouse by Lisette Starr 38 pages
My Dad, My Rock by Victor Dias de Oliveira Santos 32 pages
American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis 399 pages
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller 519 pages
Budding Reader Book Set 1 Cat and Rat by Melinda Thompson 93 pages
Wildfire (Sons of Olympus #1) by Sam Burns 232 pages
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, #1) by Douglas Adams 216 pages

Current Total: 1,018,300 pages

35559 That really is a lot of sheep and farmers. Once I've finished It I will see if I can help out with some of those, but it's still going to take me a couple of days to finish It so some of the tasks may be covered by then.

35559 I have a quick question. I know that the deadline for the BOM points is a month after the start date, but is that just for the participation (answering 3 days of questions) or do you have to finish the book before then too? I'm about 3 chapters away from finishing the 3rd day for the Wildfire BOM so I am going to read those before bed and then answer the questions when I wake up, but I'm wondering if I have to finish the book before the 22nd. It will be possible as there won't be much of the book left, but I would like to know if I need to rush.

I'm planning to read it, but I need to finish some other books first. Might be able to get around to it later this coming week.

It is a month from the start date. So it started on the 8th June so the cut off will be the 8th July. I found audible plus had a copy last night while looking through the catalogue, so I might also try and squeeze it in.

35559 So I have found Six Years in the Hanoi Hilton An Extraordinary Story of Courage and Survival in Vietnam by Amy Shively Hawk on Audible plus. It's 5 and a half hours long, but as I listen to things at a faster speed it would take me less than that. It doesn't seem like it will be a very cheerful book at all, but I like a bit of history so I would be willing to listen to it.

It is very late where I am so I won't start it tonight, but unless anyone else finds something suitable before I wake up, I will listen to it tomorrow.

35559 I'm looking for books with a rope on the cover. So far I have found Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson which has ropes from a ship visible. I've read it before, but I could re-read it pretty quick as it is pretty short. It is also on Audible plus if anyone else is subscribed and was interested.
I'm going to keep looking and see if I can find anything else.

That's a shame. Thank you for looking though, it was worth a shot.

35559 My current book It fits at least three of those tasks for the Minotaur. But as it is such a long book, it will still take me a good couple of days to finish it. I'm listening to it as an audiobook and even with a faster speed it will still take me about 20 hours of listening to finish it.
I've added it to the monsters sheet, but of course if people finish books that cover the tasks before I do then feel free to swap it out.
Also, if someone is able to look up if a character is described as "bull-headed" or "hard-headed" if they happen to have an ebook version of the book. I'm trying to listen out for the description, but might miss it. There are so many characters in the book, one of them may be described at one of those.

Catch-22 also covers two tasks for the Chimera so it could be worth saving in case we get that. It depends how desperate we are to complete the Boar quickly. I don't mind either way, I'm just throwing the idea out there.

35559 Yeah, I checked to make sure before I rushed to finish anything. I also just finished Catch-22 and everything it can work for is now on the SS.

The temperature is pretty mild here in Norway so you could get away with the long clothes. I'd even go as far as recommend it. Their tiny claws are definitely ouchy especially when they are climbing up me or think I have milk. They really are growing up quick, just a week or so ago they could barely walk and now they are running after me. They are a month old now so I'm not sure how much longer we will have them. Should be at least 2 more weeks but hopefully a bit longer.

I'm close to finishing Catch-22. I forgot how late the challenges start with my location, but it has been useful because it's given me a chance to work on the book. I should finish it within the next 2 hours. I'll list all the tasks it will work for on the SS.

35559 I've been busy with kitten stuff the past few days as the two little ones are ready to be weaned and litter trained. They are also getting good at climbing things so I've been a climbing frame and a pillow, but I'm not complaining. One of them has been pretty sick and is having a hard time feeding from mama cat so I've been bottle feeding him for a good few days. I've learnt so much from having all these kittens.
It has meant that I haven't got as far as I would have liked in some of my books, but I will try and finish Catch-22 later today. I'm currently pinned to the sofa with tiny bodies so I will take the opportunity to read some of that Wildfire BOM book. I doubt I will finish it, but it depends on how long this fluffy babies sleep for.

35559 I'm not sure any of the books I am currently reading will cover more that one task per monster (apart from Catch-22), so they are probably better reserved for when we only have one task left on a monster. I'm not finishing any books until the 15th. I'm planning on starting It very soon as not only is it over 1,000 pages but if we get the Minotaur it will cover at least three of those tasks.
35559 DQs Day 1: Chap 1-11
1. Have you read the The Sun Down Motel by this author? If so, does it change your expectation for this book? Either way, what are your expectations for this book?

I have not read The Sun Down Motel, but I remember seeing lots of people reading it. It's on my TBR list. I had no expectations for this book, other than it being about old unsolved cases because of the title.

2. The MC writes about cold cases and is in her late 20s and divorced. I have read quite a few horror/thriller/mystery books recently where the MC is a recently divorced, usually a bit older, woman. Have you experienced this as well? Why do you think authors might make this choice? Why do you think the choice was made for this book?
I've also read a few books recently where the MC is a woman who is either single or divorced in her 20s. I guess it opens up the opportunity for a love interest later or makes them seem more vulnerable to the spooky stuff.

3. This section includes the start of the interview. Did it go the way you expected? Any one comment really stick out to you?
I can't say anything stuck out to me, but it seems to go pretty much as I expected it to start.

4. What do you think about the ghostly occurrences in this section? How do they add to the story (or maybe detract)?
I'm keeping my mind open, but I guess I would have preferred the story without a supernatural element, unless it is all in Beth's head. I doubt that will be the case though.

35559 Stacey wrote: "Kelly, I haven't started mine either, so why don't I just wait? I missed your earlier post - sorry!"

Yours fits for more of the tasks so I don't mind waiting to finish mine until later. As long as I actually finish it at some point, I really don't mind. I'm intending to get to the last chapter hopefully today and then I can just finish it whenever. Of course, if you would rather read other things, I can easily have it done when the mini begins.

35559 I can hold off on finishing Catch-22 for a bit. By the sounds of it, we can get the same monster again later. I'll have a closer look at the tasks and what books I can read next. I'm just happy I have been able to read a bit more lately. Maybe the BOMs I'm still reading will fit in nicely somewhere and it will give me more incentive to actually finish them quicker
