Yeah, I appreciate Rhys's viewpoint, but she's hardly objective. She's all in, and good for her, BUT.

Basically, it comes down to this. You don't get to expand at the expense of your authors and contractors. And the fact that people who haven't been paid (narrators for audio books, cover artists, AUTHORS) are upset and complaining doesn't make them the bad guys.

YOU, MS PUBLISHER, are the bad guy in this--assuming there is a bad guy and not just bad judgment. I know you don't want to be, you didn't intend to be, you'll fix it if you possibly can--and I sincerely, sincerely hope that you can because losing another lgbtq indie publisher is a disaster for all of us--but you are the one not paying money you owe to people who earned it. There is no other side to this. They did not agree to gamble their earnings on your business expansion.

PERIOD.

Yes, you are fighting for your survival. And that is awful and I think we all are hopeful you will triumph. But you don't get to be mad at your authors and contractors for being upset and frightened with this situation. They did not sign on for this.

And yeah, it's lovely that they've managed to get some of their authors into print in places like Target. I'll leave that there.

34844 1 - I get to take two whole days for semi-creative promo stuff...videos and teasers and snippets which are actually kind of fun to do.

2 - The SO is going to an author signing tonight and I get to stay home and have the house to myself. Woohoo!!!

3 - The SO signing up for a couple of classes in the fall. :-) (SEE ABOVE)

4 - Door Dash and Grub Hub. I've resorted to them too often over the past month, but wow! What a life saver.

5 - The furtive, slightly crazed look Marlowe gets when he's trying to hide a bone from me. :-D

Nice to see you back again!

And while it was not that long a separation for me, I feel the same. Especially as it came on the heels of our all vowing to be more active and engaged.

The problem for me is I can't quite afford to hire the help I need, so I'm doing everything--managing the translations, the audio, the print, the advertising and marketing--and of course all doing the writing. And there simply is not enough time. Not even close to enough time in each day to do what has to be done.

And so sooner or later I hit a crunch where everything goes on hold while I devote my total attention to the next project and everything--EVERYTHING--falls by the wayside.

I'm hoping with Monuments Men I will have a little bit of breathing space before Mainly by Moonlight, which is a third written (and which, so far, has been so easy and fun to write).
