I never read the book, but I do remember watching the original series with Richard Chamberlai--and really enjoying it. And this version is so gorgeous and dramatic.
Yes, I seem to have become much, much more sensitive (over-sensitive) to various things that never used to bother me in film or TV. Which is pretty exasperating for the SO, who can pretty much watch any atrocity without blinking.
ON THE OTHER HAND, he tears up during emotional scenes a lot more often than I do.
So there. :-D

Not to worry. The abusive father/tortured past is one of my pet peeves in crime fiction, but a pet peeve is all it is. While I consider it a trite and tired trope, a lot of writers love it, and a lot of readers/viewers seem to enjoy as well. The overall premise of the show is entertaining.

Yes! We gave up on Tracker three episodes in.
Hey guys, this is kind of a last minute request, but I'm putting together a bibliography of gay cozy mysteries. The books must fit the rather strict criteria of an amateur sleuth (not a PI or cop) no on-screen sex, violence, no obscenity, and an mistakably cozy mystery vibe.
Your suggestions are welcome!
Started Silo, which is good but maybe darker than what I'm in the mood for. But I do want to finish it. Also started--not realizing it was going to be doled out in weekly installments--Manhunt. About the assassination of Lincoln. Or, more exactly, the hunt for John Wilkes Booth. Fascinating.
We just finished Black Snow on Acorn, which was dragged out about two episodes too long. Also I am bored to death with detectives who have tortured pasts.
Karen, we started to watch Shogun, and it seems to be beautifully done. I just couldn't take that scene with the baby.
Melissa wrote: "I didn’t get the house. 😔 There were a lot of offers and the one they accepted had NO contigencies. It wasn't meant to be I guess."I'm sorry, Melissa. That's disappointing, I know. I've been through it too.

Yes! That's the one. It's so well done.

I was interested in that one!

It's a strange time. To see so many of the rights we took for granted being rolled back in a blatant attempt to shackle and ultimately silence women. I fear it will have to get much worse before it gets better.

Talk about being in the middle of history in the making. What an incredible trip, despite the obvious disappointments.
Let's see. We watched Reacher, Season 2. It was...diverting. Predictable, of course, but isn't everything now days? Lots of action. I think the first season was better, but I'd watch another round.Slough Horses Season 3. Brilliant. Can't wait for--and dreading--the fourth season.
We started Murder at the End of the World, but I wasn't in the mood. I'll give it another shot later.
Monsieur Spade. P-R-E-P-O-S-T-E-R-O-U-S. Absurde!
True Detective. The SO is enjoying it. I found it offensively grisly, which is disappointing because I love Jodie Foster and was really looking forward to it.
Murder and Other Details. So far, so good. Fingers crossed!
And the most exciting thing of all -- one of my very favorite art critics/historians, Waldemar Januszczak, is on a YouTube channel called Perspective https://www.youtube.com/@PerspectiveArts
It's an absolute treasure trove of art documentaries!

Well, I was actually loving this weird little book and got about halfway through. Then I came down with Covid and that was that.
And now of course the holidays are long past and reading a Christmas story just doesn't feel right.
Which is especially odd given that one of my current writing projects is a Christmas story.
Anyway, did anyone read this? I thought it was surprisingly creepy.

I do agree with you though about the hard right loonies wishing to get rid of libraries. ALL THOSE ALARMING IDEAS WHERE ANYONE CAN READ THEM!!!!
