Seriously! When I signed in to GR, that was the banner message across the front page.

I mean...as extortion victims go, authors are probably terrible targets. Not only do most of them not earn enough to make it worth a blackmailer's time, they tend to be smart enough to go straight to the authorities.

One thing that changed was I set out to write something light and funny--and the books just didn't go that way. I mean, they *are*funny in some ways, but there's an emotional core that turned out to be much darker than I had originally intended.

Also the world was so much bigger and more complicated than my original vision--it had so much more potential, too much to cover in the original three books.

I knew by book 2 that it was probably going to be a series and not a trilogy, but I didn't want to commit to that until I'd worked through the third book. Then I knew for sure there was a lot more to explore--that I wanted to explore.

34844 The best thing about today?

A sudden drop in temperature. It was so cool and breezy last night I was able to leave the windows open. Today was a mild 80-something. Gorgeous.

And it's supposed to remain coolish until next Wednesday. Not that I believe that. Not after an entire summer of triple digit days and nights.

I love quails! We used to have them at the old house. They would line up on the wooden fence and stare in at us through the glass door. :-D

I bought a "hammock" for the pool--I cannot tell you how many times I've dunked myself face first on that thing. :-D

34844 1 - Swimming. The seasonal clock is ticking, so every swim feels more precious than the last.

2 - Turning off the news. I'd fallen back into my bad habit of leaving the news on during the day and my anxiety and depression ratcheted up accordingly--and understandably, given the state of the world.

3 - Sun hats

4 - Peonies

5 - Coffee table books. I had also fallen into the habit of playing Candy Crush etc. in the evenings before dinner (while listening to the super depressing and demoralizing news) and I've switched the electronics out for gorgeous art books that I've barely looked at in years. It's surprisingly calming.

Has anyone here played something called Wingspan?

I'm thinking of buying it for one of my sisters. :-)
