Ouch. Yes. Painfully true. You can't have it both ways. Slash funding but expect libraries to pick up the slack for...everyone else.

Fascinating.

LOL. Gasp! You mean Amazon is NOT an author's best ally in publishing!?

HA. I remember reading about this before they figured out who the culprit was. It truly was baffling.
And yes, he would definitely be dead in my book. ;-)

There's nothing like a dip into the commercial entertainments of the past, to reassure you that progress does happen, even if it's not as fast as we'd like. :-D

I missed this. Congratulations! It seems like one of the good things that came out of the pandemic was people deciding to make the necessary changes to be happy in their work.

2 - Getting in touch with faraway friends over the holidays
3 - My little potted maple trees are so far surviving the startlingly cold weather (it's been below freezing all week)
4 - Booster shots
5 - Cozy flannel sheets, a crackling fireplace, hot cocoa...seasonal delights. ;-)

I did not! But I'm still tempted. Maybe for her birthday. I was afraid it would require more focus than she has right now.
They all played games on New Year's Eve though, so that started me thinking about it again.

Definitely not a great time to be traveling.
Your Christmas plans sound both sensible and relaxing.
The SO bought two squeaky toy pigs for Marlowe and Spenser, but they're afraid of them! :-D They do sound surprisingly realistic.

It is supposed to be for my book reviews, reflections and cooking but it is mostly about cooking and my experiments with bread baking 😄"

Well, I regret to say I ended up falling sick on Christmas Eve, so...
Then the following week, there was a COVID scare at the SO's work, so we abandoned our plan to wait until after the holiday for our boosters, which meant I was then sick for New Year's.
:-D :-D :-D
Which is just so in keeping with 2021.
But now we have the fresh clean slate of 2022.
What are your big plans for the New Year?

Hmm. Well, it sounds like libraries are doing a brisk business, which is good. And I'm all for libraries receiving a generous discount. In theory, libraries are providing access to readers who can't afford to purchase books. This is not only admirable, it's vital.
But I also understand why not everyone is thrilled by the potential for thousands of downloads, let alone thousands of simultaneous downloads.
The beauty of this age of publishing technology is that more writers earn money writing than ever before. The ugly side is that most writers earn less--often significantly less--than they used to.
(I'm not one of them, so this is not me complaining. The Brave New World of entrepreneurial publishing has been good to me. This is me simply stating the facts. )
Luckily, most writers are not their family's sole support, so you have plenty of people who are thrilled to be earning anything.

Yes! When I first saw Kit mentioned I said, "More please!""
:-D :-D :-D

That broke my heart on our Zoom call. It's so tough. We love them so much, and they live such a short time. :-(

I'm trying to think how to work in what I think would be a very funny development. ;-D

Same. Adrien was so lucky to have found you. I'm sitting here crying over your losing her.

Oh no. I'm so, so sorry Jordan.
