OH. Excellent.

Maybe our modern life isn't really all that conducive to things like tree lighting ceremonies? I'd probably be impatient too, if I was trying to get my groceries. :-D
WE COULD BE LIKE THE GROUCHY CHARACTERS IN A HALLMARK SPECIAL TRANSFORMED BY THE POWER OF CHRISTMAS. :-D

I'm horrifically out of shape right now--and paying the price. When I'm working out regularly and eating right, I feel so good. Not just physically, but mentally. And also, my mood is so much better.

Yeah, that was a choke-on-your-coffee moment.

I really do need to write this stuff down somewhere. I came across my very first handwritten notes for the characters last week, and basically...THERE'S NOTHING USEFUL IN THERE. :-D The stuff I wrote down was the stuff that I wasn't likely to forget. But details about family, education, work experience, circle of friends... Not. A. Word.
QUESTION FOR ANY AND ALL FAMILIAR WITH THE AE SERIES:Have I ever mentioned Lisa's maiden name?
I don't think it was in the books, but I thought I mentioned it in a coda somewhere.
FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I CAN'T REMEMBER--NOR FIND IT.

I've switched to the audio. I can't read for more than a minute or two at night before I'm asleep. At this rate it will be NEXT Christmas before I finish...
1 - My holiday shopping is ALMOST complete. 2 - Scented candles (I mean, within reason) ;-D
3 - Classic Christmas Mystery novels (i've got a list on one of my upcoming AC posts)
4 - Raspberry tarts
5 - Dogs

And in other news, Indonesia has outlawed premarital sex (including for tourists--which I imagine will be decidedly fewere now)

We just wrapped up Magpie Murders on PBS and we finally finished Recipes for Love and Murder on Acorn. I enjoyed them both but neither were what I'd call...must watch TV. ;-D Meaning, it took us weeks to finish both series although we did enjoy them both.
Which has me thinking about what makes for a "compelling" read. The kind of book you just can't put down. The kind of movie you can't stop watching.
Interestingly, I enjoyed the book Magpie Murders much more than the TV adaptation, although Horowitz did the adaptation. He changed it in subtle but significant ways that just, well, bored me a bit.
And, as is my wont this time of year, I've been watching (well, really, listening) to the Hallmark Channel. I felt it would be a good background for writing holiday codas.
They're...well, they're heartwarming. I'll give them that. I got a little misty a couple of times, I admit it. However, questions persist:
1 - WHY DOES EVERYONE HAVE A CHRISTMAS TREE IN EVERY ROOM OF THEIR HOUSE?
2 - WHAT IS WITH ALL THE MUSICIANS AND FORMER MUSICIANS THIS YEAR? I mean, every other show has to do with musicians. I've got nothing against music or musicians, I'm just bafffled that this is apparently the year of The Musician. It used to be that one country singer stranded in an airport. Now... They're Everywhere.
3 - Does no one die without leaving an adorable precocious little daughter behind?
4 - Why the hell does the choice between a woman's dream job and the love of her life ALWAYS mean she's going to have to pass on the dream job?
5 - Did they really stop advertising their sole gay holiday movie this year or is that my imagination? In fact, did I imagine they were having a gay holiday movie this year?
6 - Why is the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony not a big deal in my village--er, town? In fact, I don't think we even HAVE a tree lighting ceremony. :-/
7 - Do any of these people have solar power? Because holy moly there is a whole light of beaming lights and glowing garland and dazzling decorations going on in these homes. The Martians observing us must be AGOG this time of year.
AGOG, I TELL YOU.

I'm not sure why I listed that here! LOL
I must admit, it's a bit drier than I anticipated from the reviews, I don't usually mind dry humor, but... This verges on dusty. Still. I shall forge on. Seeing that it was my idea. :-D
1 - The Holiday Spirit ;-D 2 - Evening walks. It's so pretty with all the holiday lights and decorations.
3 - Crème brûlée
4 - Being 2/3rds done with my holiday shopping
5 - Star light, candle light, firelight...
I've deeply discounted a LOT of my audio over at my Author's Direct store. ;-) https://shop.authors-direct.com/colle...
1 - Flower arranging. Guys, I am getting seriously good at this! I did SIX full-on flower arrangements for Thanksgiving--using florist clay and tape and one heck of a lot of flowers. I wish I could share the photos, but they honestly don't do the arrangements justice. 2 - A new autumn cocktail the Office Elf and I devised. We call it Ramble in the Bramble, and I'm sharing the recipe on the Advent Blog tomorrow. ;-)
3 - Vintage Christmas mystery movies - I wish there more of them to enjoy.
4 - Snow globes
5 - Super cozy writing days in front of the fire
One thing I love right now is being boosted for Covid and the flu before we hit the holidays. After being sick for a the holidays last year--and then almost all of January--I'm so looking forward to celebrating this year.
Jordan wrote: "That stone can tell the future! Cool! When I had Covid I was exhausted for many weeks afterward too. I hope you feel better soon!"
It definitely takes a while to get back to full speed. In fact, I didn't understand how much it had sapped my energy and focus, until I was several months past it.
