Hello Tammy! Welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group Natpat! Hope that you enjoy.

Way to go Kerri! Maybe, it will give you some ideas for your 1000 mile trek! LOL

Alright, February is finally here and we can start this book! It is interesting that so many people count it as their first "real" book that they read. I have been looking forward to this one! Bring it on!

That was hard to read. Just like watching a train
wreck occuring right before your eyes.

Dolokhov has some definite scary attributes. He reminds me of the person that after a crime, neighbors say " He was a quiet man, kept to himself. Very polite". I don't know how far you are, but his character plays a bigger part in part 3-5.

I really do not like Rostov. He annoyed me in the first part, and he has not gotten any better. That and Dolohave is quite the interesting character. Can't wait to see where his part goes.

Wow, all I can say is wow! Lots of things happen in this part.

It is rather mind blowing.

Welcome David!

Welcome Marina!

Oh, how I feel sorry for Princess Marya. In the first part, I felt sorry for her being stuck in the country with a OCD father. Now upon further reading, it is apparent that he loves her greatly, and just wants her happy. Definitely not with Anatole. And Mademoiselle Bourienne, what is up with her? I'm confused at her role, is she a lady-in-waiting? I must have missed when her role was explained.

Welcome Adelle! Hope that you enjoy the group!

LOL! My odds decrease if there is only one other person entered!

My husband laughs at me because I won't watch horror movies, so I'm right there with you Andrea!

I , find it weird, but for the last 4 days, I have heard reference to this book. From "Orwellian" and "doublespeak", to "big brother" it is crazy. Maybe, I just know what people are talking about and so I am more aware of the references. I just find it funny!

Welcome Andrea! That is pretty much how this group got started-"why have I never read that classic"! Pretty much says it all. Kerri was also appalled that I gave To Kill a Mockingbird one star. That was from high school, so I'm giving it another chance due to our challenge! It is nice to meet you and I hope that you enjoy our group!

This book really gives a graphic glimpse of warfare in the 19th century. How confusing and slow paced troop movements and communication was. Very frustrating for everyone.
