I can not put this book down. It has gotten very exciting! I can't believe some of the stuff that has occured.
Amazing how I can feel sorry for the old count, even though I do not like him at all. Some circumstances are just something that you would not wish upon anyone.
LOL! Congratulations on the win! Um, chalk it up to broadening your horizons and I hope that you enjoy it! You won a book!!! WOOHOOO!!
What is everyone's thoughts about Tolstoy's opening chapter in Part 9? His idea that "nothing was exclusively the cause of the war and the war was bound to happen, simply because it was bound to happen". "How the individual man lives in freedom of will, but he serves as an unconscious instrument in bringing about the historical ends of humanity." Just wondering if anyone found that chapter interesting?
Oh my, those Kuragins are vile aren't they? How could Pierre just let him go? I would have rung his neck! Another instance of Pierre driving me crazy! He is way nicer than I would have been!
Did anyone see the Jane Eyre challenge here on Goodreads? It is located over on the right side of your home page. I did see that some members of our group have finished it! Congrats, sounds like a fun challenge and perfect timing for our group read!
I just started Part 8 and I was hoping he would kick the bucket soon. Sad to hear that he is hanging on...
Marie wrote: "It was difficult to believe so many people were willing to help Anatole kidnap and have a fake marriage with a teenage girl."Wow, no wonder you all don't like those Kuragins. I need to hurry and catch up!
I have no idea what a calf enhancer is. I looked some more, but found no references. Maybe, they molded a sock to their leg! LOL! I saw on the news yesterday about Booty Pop, which makes a person's booty more like Jay Lo's. Seems enhancements never die!
Did anyone else get intrigued by the fashion from this time period? I just find the whole description of the family getting ready for the Tsar's ball really interesting. I found some sites that have pictures of dresses during that period and my they are beautiful! The garments are quite clingy and revealing! Some men actually used "calf-enhancers", some things never change! Vanity in any century!http://sensibility.com/vintageimages/...
I wanted to apologize to everyone about the lack of discussion on our group read this month. Apparently, I can't read two classics at once! I hope to get rockin on Watership during March. Again, sorry about that!
