Fellow Rockton fans there's a new novella that was released recently
Dead Letter Days - it's from Eric's POV and I enjoyed it:)

I just read
By a Silver Thread it was pretty good and set in the author's DFZ world. Made me want to go back and read the
Nice Dragons Finish Last series.
Douglas wrote: "..I LOVED this series but IMHO it started downhill after the first 2 books and the last book just left me unsatisfied ..."I just finished Blood Winter and completely agree with you. It devolved into those books where the kickbutt leads just end up pulped and bloody and on the verge of death over and over again - while gracing us with very one note repetitious self talk about why hurling themselves into the suicidal situations is the only solution.

I reread the whole series after the last book came out.

I pulled the first book of an older series off my one click sale tbr pile and really liked it.
Bitter Night it's UF with a promise of romance. I think the reason some of the older series really click with me is they are 3rd person, so often if I find myself really liking a book I will realize after the fact that it is 3rd person. This one had me staying up late because I didn't want to put it down until a situation resolved- I have been much smarter than I was in the old days and don't do the late late reading much anymore. Normally, now I can convince myself that i will enjoy the story more (and life the next day) if I am not so tired when I am reading, but this time the smart self talk didn't win.

I just finished the graphic audio for the first Kate Daniel's book. I think this format is fun. It also included the first Curran POVs and a Questionable Client. I hope they do the second book soon.

I agree that books have gotten super expensive. I too am making more use of the library when I can. And I often do audio instead for books that release as hardbacks (or ebooks at hardback prices). I am even - gasp - starting to do some rereading when I've never been a rereader. Now that its been over 10 years since some of my favorite series started, I don't remember the plot details so clearly and can enjoy them again. Kindle Unlimited has been a boon too. Not everything there is great but there's been enough to kerp me happily busy.

Poisoner's Ring is out now. I was lucky enough to have read it as an ARC and would recommend it to Rockton fans, if you also like historical settings.

I don't now if anyone is still reading the Shinagami Detective series but I still think they're cute.
I just finished
All In A Name.
I also read
Fused, which I like better than the series with the dragon leading man that this is a spinoff from. I thought this was going to be the last, but apparently just finished off the story arc of the first 5 books, because there was another one listed.
I have also been listening to contemporary romances
The Rebound,
Honeymoon For One,
Happy Place, and
Yours Truly I got lucky with the newer ones and got the first spots on the waitlists from the library. I think yours truly and happy place were my favorites of the bunch.

Kristi - sending positive thoughts your way. Hoping for the best possible outcome for your hubby.

I was thinking about rereading Rachel Aaron's
Nice Dragons Finish Last - I thought it was a fun series and the world is cool. I also like the spin off series in that world. Then my daughter discovered there's a new book
By a Silver Thread for a second spinoof out next week and the blurb sounds good. Yay! Something to look forward to.
Vanessa wrote: "Happy... I can't seem to find the Jodi Taylor book. Is there a separate netgalley for the uk?"I think they do limit selections by region/country

Keep the rec's coming. I don't always have a chance to peruse the Net..."Congrats on getting off the estate paperwork hamster wheel, it is such a relief when things are settled.

HappyBookWorm good luck with everything with your house and taxes. It is good about your kid's insurance, we had to go through hoops too because both of our kids were older when they graduated and had a bit of a lag before they got jobs since they were 2020 grads. It was a relief when they finally got their own insuance.

I've been knitting and listening instead of readin, so I decided to revisit the Edge books, i am to the last (which I was so so about on my first read) and it is the one that I remember the least.
So far I still like Bayou Moon and Fates Edge the best - both couples are great. I am still pretty meh on the first book.. The funnest part though has been seeing young George, Jack, Lark and Gaston - especially afyer seeing them all grown up in the Innkeeper books.

I was digging through the monthly kindle deals saw this one which cracked me up (it's KU by the way)
The Flamingo's Fated Mate 1st in the lawn ornament shifters series !? (The second is Gnome Sweet Gnome of course. Are there any other lawn ornaments? I couldn't think of any...)
There were some good ones though:
Small Magics 1.99
(Grace of Small Magics is one of my favorite Ilona Andrews shorts)
Clean Sweep 2.49
A Symphony of Echoes a Chronicle of St Mary's book
A Rip Through Time 2.49 (as doug mentioned)
The Other Half of the Grave 2.49 and
A Grave Girls’ Getaway 1.59 from Jeanienne Frost
The Drafter 1.99 Kim Harrison's Peri Reed series

Speaking of ARCs
Two good friends to lovers contemporaries
Friends Don't Fall in Love and
A Guide to Being Just Friends - both do the friends part well before moving to the lovers parts and even though they are part of series they stand fine on their own.
The
French Holiday was a good herione trying to find herself while staying off the beaten track in the french Countrtside with a touch of gothic romance elements.
But my favorite lately was
The Poisoner's Ring which despite the 1800s Scottland setting pinged many of the same vibes as Armstrong's Rockton series - with a modern police detective transported into the body of a house maid trying to help her doctor employer solve murders before modern forensics are a thing.

I agree about Backpacking Through Bedlam - some one else described it as two short stories (and that the first part really belonged in the previous book)
