I don't think of it as especially dark, but the first heroine starts out as a supernatural 'cleaner' so I think the first book starts with a crime scene and there is at least one other place in the story with a werewolf killing women, but I don't think it dwells on it. The first three books are with Scarlette who is a snarky magical null in the LA area and the next three books has Lex a former soldier and a witch with death related magic who lives in the Denver area. The series alternates trilogies for the two. Very often there is some supernatural mystery to be solved and there are politics and such between the three major supe groups: vampires, weres, and witches. There are some short stories to flesh out side characters. Here's the series link
Old World series

I don't know if anyone else follows the Scarlett/Lex Old World series but I just finished
Old World War which was a good crossover book. Lots of action and a nice epilog. This wraps up some threads. But I hope there will be more. (Oh. I also found that I missed a book of old world shorts that came out last year
Spell Bond: More Tales From the Old World. These are KU.

Congrats to you both on your retirement! I am still adjusting to mine, but I don't miss my job. Have fun on your trip Kristi - it sounds fabulous. Good luck with your fresh start BJ.

I read the first few (the ones you could get right away for free). I am definitely not the target audience though - I don't normally do graphic novels - so I am a bit mixed. Some of the art (for settings) is pretty. The chibis though... i think that after the first set one unlocks every day so I will keep going. I hear there is a new character and I am curious.
Speaking of art, did you see the blog post where IA created BahaChar and Unicorn road with an AI art progra?. I thought that was so cool. Made me want play with it (i am no artist, but maybe ...)

LAB - that's so scary, hope his recovery goes well and that you are able to destress as well.

This is free today
Time of My Life it's a groundhog day type romance. I thought it was cute.

Old World War"Yay times 2!!

I decided to do a Hidden Legacy reread before the next book comes out. I may have to pace myself though - I read both of the first two books today. I will probably break it up by listening to the graphic audio of Sweep of the Blade which finally made it to audible. These are sort of goofy with tsound effects, but the full cast makes them fun despite that.
The Jackal is on sale for 1.99 today. I haven't read anything in the BDB world for awhile, but at that price (and its supposedly the first of the BDB prison series) so I clicked - the beauty of a virtual TBR pile is that I don't need to add onto the house;)

I just finished
Colonial Corpses: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel: (Hallowed Homes) it's book 14 or 15 in a series that's a collaboration between JR Rain and HP Mallory. There are several different leads that the books rotate through and there's normally a small mystery and a touch of romance. It's KU and they put out a book every couple of months, so its nice when I am looking for something light.

LoveYourShelf (LAB☺) wrote: "I finished an advance listening copy of

- I was lucky enough to get it as an ARc too. And as an avid audio listener I found it fun to get a bit of insight into the industry and the process.
I also discovered the first two books of
The Write Hook for free on audible plus (the whole series is also on KU) it is goofy PWF fun.

I finished
Book of Night - I liked it a lot. It's UF with an original world where a person's shadows can affect the real world. The leading lady is a con artist and thief who was trying to go straight - that doesn't really work out for her. I think this Black's first book targeted to adults (though there isn't anything too "adult")
I've also been listening to the Miss Frost series
Miss Frost Solves a Cold Case since they are free wirh audible plus (I was too cheap to buy this for kindle even though I do shell out for the other Nocturne Falls books) And speaking of the author (Kristen Painter) she supposedly is putting her PWF First Fangs Club series on KU.

So funny."So true;)
Waverly wrote: "You guys crack me up. I'm a sex scene skimmer, too. Last night I stayed up way too late reading Keri Arthur's new Lizzie Grace novel, Sorrow's Song... and since I had already screwe..."I read both the Lizzie Grace and Ordinary book today too:)

I started
Book of Night - which looks like it's going to be good - but was in the mood for something lighter so I switched to a mini Fortune Redding binge (
Fortune Furlough,
Flame and Fortune, and
Frightfully Fortune) for some guaranteed goofiness.
I also read the new Nocturne Falls
The Vampire's Sunny Sweetheart which was cute.
And I read the new Elizabeth Hunter
Mirror Obscure which was fine - if a bit odd for the romance for the pregnant (by IVF) heroine and the fact that her beau cheated on his ex in the past gave me pause when they talked about it.
Lisa - (Aussie Girl) wrote: "Has anybody read this door stopper?

I've been listening to
Beechwood Harbor Magic Mysteries Boxed Set - I am on the the third set of three - I think they are kind of fun with witches, weres and a ghostly landlord. I like the reader Amanda Ronconi (she reads the molly harper jane jameson series).
Next up in audio is the new Hollows book
Trouble with the Cursed which is just out this week.
I also started a new KU series
Dragons Are a Girl’s Best Friend which has been pretty good so far.
N
Dirty Deeds 2: An Urban Fantasy Collection is out. I've only read the Faith Hunter Eli and Liz short - which also has a Brute POV. I liked it a lot. I like them together and I like peeking into Eli"s head. There are also stories by RJ Blain, Diana Pharoh Francis and Devon Monk I am reading Monk's next, it's connected to her new Souls on the road series and I think it stars the crossroad guardian - I like this series so far.

I just finished listening to the graphic audio for One Fell Sweep - they are kind of goofy but fun. Though I do have to say the love scene was weird in this format.
