I found the first half of the book very funny in places. That kind of dark humour, very cynical, always makes me laugh. Catcher In the Rye also made me laugh out loud too. I think Sylvia Plath had a wicked sense of humour. I wish she had survived to write more novels. What a loss.

Who's planning to join in on this read? What are your expectations in picking this book up?
I wasn't too impressed. I wonder why this book wasn't classed as a memoir, but rather historical fiction. Just how much was added? I noticed it was originally written as a screenplay, and that's how it read for me, poorly written, somewhat superficial and a little far-fetched at times. Call me cynical, but I wonder if the author added some detail to make Lale appear more sympathetic.
A little late in the month, but I've just started reading it, so we'll see how it goes. My expectations? It's a story from Auschwitz....
I'll be reading this one too. I'm hoping to get a better understanding of depression. This book was written in the 60's when mental illness was never discussed openly. It was a groundbreaker.
