I found Julia an interesting character. She certainly fell in love with Winston rather suddenly, but was it real? Julia is turned very quickly too. Orwell doesn't tell us what her "worst thing ever" was, but she has a scar across her forehead. Maybe a lobotomy?

Hi everyone! This book was read by the group in 2019, so there is a Discussion Thread still open here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...If you read the Buddy Read instructions, this is the thread you should use for your dicussions of this book.
A shockingly good read with much relevancy to our current world. Here are some examples that come to mind:Social media collects data about our "likes"
Security cameras are everywhere, following our every move
"Alternate Facts"
Government manipulation through hate and fear of immigrants, liberals, races
QAnon conspiracies
Propoganda from "state TV" news channels, fake news
Can you think of more examples of how our current world matches Orwell's vision?

Your nominated book doesn't qualify, but you are welcome to suggest it in the Modern/Popular thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
I'll be joining in this classic read. I'm interested in how Orwell's 1949 vision matches current political trends. Should be a thought-provoking topic.
