So I kinda “cheat”. I usually save my short books for readathons. Still over 100 pages, but under 300.

Don’t know if it’s just me, but the link keeps giving me an error.

Omg Robin I’m an adult and I’ve never thought deeply on what ymca could mean and you said that and I was like “ohhhhhhhh”.

Yeah, last had it in 2021. But it feels like forever without it.

Definite upvotes: B/B/B/B/JB, mushrooms, Goodreads choice (love love love this prompt and always sad when it doesn’t get in), guide (I’ve read a lot of books on the list and loved most of them)
Maybe: initials, African country. I do a lot of these already, enjoy them and have options
Hard but not necessarily downvotes: autumn (it’s in the fall challenge and the only prompt I don’t have a book set aside for), Anne of green Gables (I never read/watched but if it got in I’d probably just read the first one)

Oooh I just finished A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting and A Lady’s Guide to scandal and loved loved loved them. I hate I can’t link to them on the app

We passed a law eliminating it in CA years ago, and still nothing.

Sorry to hear Nancy. Hope it’s just pneumonia and I’ll be sending warm thoughts your way.

For short stories, I’d recommend Girl, Woman, Other. Just finished it today. I think it could be either a novel or collection of short stories all woven together. But overall really great book

Agree Jill, and I’m sorry if I made you feel like you can’t share your opinions. That was not my intention in any way. I do like when people share why they downvote and enjoy your posts in this group.

I’m an Amazon plebe then lol. I find most books I want to read next from Goodreads, whether it’s the articles/lists or my friends feeds. I don’t think I have enough reader friends to find books outside of this site.

They definitely may be, but I just assume Goodreads algorithms are recommending us more Amazon published books to add to our TBR and buy, even outside of Amazon

@Jill Amazon own Goodreads. So just being on the site makes them money from the advertising on the homepages. You also don’t pay to go on five books and look at their recommendations.

I mean we’re also giving Amazon money just by being on Goodreads as much as we are.
I think as long as people find books they’d like to read on the list, then it’s find. Five books has go try to make money someway.

Emily, can you remind me. Is the other prompt prize for the Fall Reading Challenge or the Fall Read-a-Thon?

Connie, I don’t think that’s bending it at all. It’s however anyone interprets “ex” and I just didn’t think of extraterrestrial. I wanted to keep it broad so there could be fun interpretations like that.

Also the sequel to theAlienist I believe talks about the famous female serial Amelia Dyer. That maybe be the wrong 1800s serial killer but there was definitely one in the book

I'm guessing famous people count as real?! [au..."oooh Vicki, what series is it with Eleanor Roosevelt? My dog's name is Eleanor Rosie....no clue where that came from :)

A real person as a character - could that include a memoir or a biography, or would that be cheating? Or a KIS option.
I love #10 and have
The Last Devil to Die already on hold at the library just waiting for release day!
