174195 Oh I LOVE masterpiece. I can help, but not till this afternoon/evening. Or I can like some. Whichever method you want to use.

174195 Started Good Omens which will fit two authors. But I’m tired so going to head to bed early. Probably won’t finish till Friday but I’ll keep adding time read

174195 Bec, where do you think those will fit. I'm thinking of finding something for 2+ authors which we don't seem to have something for.

Was thinking either Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch or The Personal Librarian. Won't be able to start till tonight

174195 Move on! Don’t waste time if it’s not bringing you joy. We can still get rolls from what you did read

174195 Definitely think moon counts for circle.

Will finish Murder in postscript this afternoon and that will go to military.

I’ll look at what prompts are left before picking my next read.

174195 Like a choose your own adventure prompt? I’d probably do a choose your own adventure book
Sep 12, 2023 04:07PM

174195 Could also be ex’s and oh’s like the song by Elle King
Sep 12, 2023 03:33PM

174195 Finished I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and put it under trivial pursuit nonfiction. Am I terrible for not liking Maya Angelou’s biography?!?!

Reading Murder in Postscript. Will probably finish it tomorrow.

174195 Since we’ll run out of letters to make prompts out of in a couple years (although I personally expect all the mods to be around in 2100 on Goodreads) I would still like to see a prompt related to x. Especially as I feel it has a lot more versatility compared to most letters.

We’ve tried x marks the spot, x as ex, x-files. Any other ideas?

The challenge is really yours to make it though. If you don't want to do a prompt or it doesn't match with what you read, don't do it! No one is watching.

I also think there are always ways to get around things. I'm sure a lot of African and Asian diaspora authors are now based in London and write a lot of books popular there. Or make it your own, maybe instead of from Africa you do of African descent. At the end of the day it's your challenge. No one should feel forced to read a book they aren't interested in and no one is going to judge anyone for making the challenge their own

174195 I agree with the Nancys (the new Heathers -- eek another American reference lol).

I make an effort to read broadly, even if it's an "American" prompt, but it's also ok if people just want to read books by Americans or authors in a certain country/region. There's no wrong way to read!

If people want more global pop-culture prompts, please suggest them! I barely understand all the American pop-culture prompts, so I certainly wouldn't be qualified to submit prompts from other countries. Sure people may not like it and voice their opinions, but others may love it. It can't make it in the final list if it's not suggested.

Bea, warm or heated atmosphere definitely includes a summer book!

It was definitely voted on. We also I think voted on a BBC prompt last year and discussed a Masterpiece Classic prompt (my love!!).

A lot of prompts get negative feedback, but if a prompt is never suggested it can never get in.

Then submit a prompt from British pop culture.

We can only be as good as the prompts suggested. I’ll admit I’m American and I don’t know a lot of pop culture references around the world. Unfortunately, that puts the onus on people from those countries to help with ideas.

174195 Also started A Murder in Postcript which can count for murder but also military character, which is likely harder to fill.

174195 Another cozy mystery sub genre I’m really into us regency/Victorian mystery novels. I’ve noticed an increase in those type of mysteries and romances and I’m all for it

174195 Oh and 6+ words and she got a special Edgar award.

174195 For secret of the old clock there are already a lot of options: botanical cover, secondary cover, series, connected to last year (if you read a mystery)

174195 Thanks NancyJ for suggesting warm atmosphere. I've been running like crazy all day.

For those that like cozy mysteries, warm atmosphere can cover those. Similar to the chilling atmosphere prompt which can include thrillers, horror, etc, I had intended warm atmosphere to cover cozy books or books that just make you feel warm and fuzzy.

I for some reason love books with "guide" in the title as well as encyclopedia. I do think at the end of the day they are basically the same prompt, but reference title is broader so I'll upvote that.

I love Addams Family. I've dressed up as Wednesday every year for the past 15-ish years. This is the first year I won't and I'm going as Daisy Duck to match my daughter's Minnie Mouse. Oh how my life has changed.

Also will upvote Going for Gold and Goodreads choice. My other 3 votes will probably be downvotes

174195 Reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Probably won't finish today but will finish by tomorrow. It can fit under non-fiction for trivial pursuit.
