As an Austrian who has read
Stefan Zweig at school (and we all loved him!), I can highly recommend him!
Pamela wrote: "Nadine had already spotted John in the train queue and we are told he was handsome. Not sure she'd have scooped up an ugly man (or a woman) with such alacrity :)"You´re definitely right there!
Judy wrote: "Thanks, Michaela. Do you think she was unfaithful? I wasn't sure - given all the references to her dazzling beauty I thought perhaps the authorr was hinting at that."May well be, though it´s not mentioned expressively!

Obviously she treated him very badly, and they quarrelled the whole time, but he couldn´t leave her till he finally died.

I didn´t mind that there was no murder, as it was interesting to find out who had planned or accidentily committed which crime and when.
And I´m also no fan of the widow Nadine either, though I liked John Foss.

Finished this, and besides the solution not being quite what Kendall had worked out, I liked the description of the people and much happening through listening at doors and through walls.
I liked that Bultin always was so smart, only to find out that the inspector was ahead of him. Having read a lot of mysteries with amateur detectives, I couldn´t do otherwise than grin. In the end though Kendall wasn´t quite right. ;)

I nominate
Suicide Excepted by
Cyril Hare
Inspector Mallett's stay at the country house hotel of Pendlebury Old Hall has been a letdown, room, food and service, and he longs for it to end. His last trial is to listen when a boorish old man, whose family once owned the house, joins his table. The next day the man is dead and Mallett finds himself investigating the suspicious 'suicide'.It´s 1.99p on kindle.

Ah, I wanted to nominate Annie Haynes too, as I recently got some for free/99p. ;) Hope not all your nominations are spooky! :O

Great list, thanks Susan! And I didn´t like
The Daughter of Time too! ;)

I want to read this one, but later in the month.

I only read it the last few days and loved it! Though Macdonald appeared late, I found the description of the characters and the atmosphere very well written. How he found the murderer isn´t easy to find out.

Thanks for the info! Finally started this, and like the setting!

Finished this a few days ago and it wasn’t always easy to understand the legal terms. I also thought the solution a bit odd.

Thanks Judy! I use the German site, and it doesn´t have the book offers. I hope for my libraries! :)

Thanks Susan! Luckily I´ll get most of them at my library, and perhaps I´ll spend the one or other credit on an audiobook. :)
Perhaps I should mention that they´re of course available here, but not as cheap. ;) (a thing of author´s rights being different in the US and elsewhere)

Ah, pity about the Agatha Christies, as they´re not available in Europe!

I read this last month, and found it a bit slow in the beginning, but even quicker in the end. It was solved more by chance and not only by Brother Cadfael himself.

Thanks for the list! I only remember two of those, but I might have forgotten about others. Always good to re-read Christie! :)

I´d be interested in both, though I haven´t read the first Flavia book yet.

A pity when used books aren´t allowed to be given away anymore! Wonder if our open bookshelves will exist further!
