173974 I hope to read this soon, and I´m glad it´s better than the first Dalgliesh! ;)
173974 I´ll be reading this some time this month. And I agree Susan! :)

Thanks, good idea!
173974 I think Nick originally talked about another Dalgliesh book and mentioned that Christie would never have done it, so I disagreed. She was also important for breaking some of the other "rules" which someone put up long ago.

I agree though that there are no such rules, it´s all in the expectations a reader might or might not have. Anyway the discussion isn´t about this book.

Oh, she did! Was possibly the first mystery author to break this rule!

173974 Welcome everyone! :)

173974 I looked at the reviews of Death in Captivity, and they weren´t too good (more a remembrance of the war than a mystery), but will perhaps join in nonetheless, though I won´t get it at my library so will possibly have to buy it.
173974 Thanks Sandy for explaining!
173974 Glad to hear the other books are obviously better, because I found this one quite boring and with a rushed end, that didn´t really reveal how Dalgliesh came to his conclusions.

It may be my fault, but two things I didn´t understand: Was Sally´s husband also Jimmy´s father, and were they married before? The other one is, if Deborah was really attacked by Mrs. Maxie and why? I first thought she was perhaps the murderer, and had somehow pretended to having been attacked.

I´ve got the second in the series in German from my library, so will give it another try.

173974 Sorry to ask, as I´m quite new here, but will there be further reads of the Cadfael novels? I´ll soon start the second...

173974 Welcome Bill! Interested in what you can recommend! Have fun!

173974 Didn´t know they were siblings! I voted for The Three Taps, but hope to get Arrest the Bishop? too. Obviously it´s available on Kindle, but not otherwise.
173974 I finished the book today, and though I was hooked at the beginning, the solving of the crime diappointed me. The pretense of two people was as incredible as the police inspector turning out to be a further son and having committed the crime, and that in a sudden end and turn. I love Poirot, but this time only 2 stars. And I missed Hastings! ;)
173974 Got the book in German from the library, but will look out for the Hugh Fraser audiobook, thanks Tara!

173974 I will have a look at the first book, but not do the challenge.

And in Austria (German Amazon) too, so I´m all for that! ;)
