Vote away! Read if you can! No worries if you can't - it's just for fun. If anyone gives you grief, they with have to deal with me (because, yeah, I am all big and tough and everything).

Thanks for keeping the group alive, Matthew!"No problem. It was a great idea and it has motivated me to read some books I have always thought I should read. I wanted to help keep the dream alive!
Mmars wrote: "From what I've seen in other groups, 20 votes from 92 members is really quite good."Yes, very true, but a man can dream! :)

No problem! It is fun bringing readers together and taking on these book lists. Thanks to Justin for starting the group and letting me help out.
Last I checked we had about 20 votes, but 92 group members. I hope to see a majority vote on this one!
Thanks to all who have voted so far!

When this group started, we started with a BIG read (Infinite Jest) that went on for several months. This months poll is to pick our next BIG read. I scoured our book lists and found 12 LOOOOOOOOOG titles for us to vote on. The poll will be up until September 25th with the start date for the big read on October 1st. I am not sure how long we will have it featured, but I am thinking through the end of the year.

When I read books or see movies with excess like this, I am surprised these characters can keep going. Liquor, drugs, and cigarettes all night long and they manage to do things the next day even if they do feel terrible.
In today's reading, John recovers - yes recovers - by drinking an entire bottle of scotch (He says usually just half works, but he wants to make sure!) That the heck!?!?!
I have reached a point in my life where two glasses of wine or three beers and I have to worry I might be hurting a little the next day - and that is without the cigarettes and drugs!

So far I am enjoying this more than expected. Just reading it gives me a hangover, though!

Just started - and this is funnier and more interesting than I expected. The main character is a very pitiful dude!
I will say, for those who are thinking about this and are not sure, if you are not into raunchy stuff, this may not be for you. But, only 22 pages in, I cannot say for sure how bad it will end up being, yet.
Valerie wrote: "I read this so long ago and loved it. I am trying to decide if I want to go back and start over on the series. Hmmm. So many books, so little time."I read the first four in this series over a decade ago. Then, I started the series over a couple of years ago and now I am up to book 10. It is great!

Justin - I get the feeling reading this at the same time as Vurt for the other book club might blow your mind!

Here is where you can discuss
Magician by
Raymond E. Feist.
The listing on this group page and discussion is for the combined volume containing:
and
If you cannot find the combined edition, reading these two will be the same.

I have my copy now - now I just need to fit it in with all the other books!

Mmars - I notice things like that in books and I stop to ask if that is an important part of the point the author was making, or if it is just a symptom of the time and place it was written.

One thing I forgot to mention: I noticed that when I went to put a copy of this book on hold at my library, the online entry had the subtitle of "Money: A Suicide Note". I have note seen that subtitle anywhere else - not that I have looked very hard, but it didn't stand out to me as a part of the Goodreads description. Going in thinking of the book as a suicide note may change the way the reader sees it.

Mmars - thanks! Keeping that in mind should help.

Hmmm - I am not getting too excited about this one with all this talk!

Mine is in at the library, too. Picking it up Monday and then it's on!
Jennifer wrote: "Is anyone else reading Money?"Still waiting on my copy - but I will be reading this hopefully in the next couple of months.

This is one of my all time favorites - I have read it a few times and so I will probably not be re-reading it now - but I look forward to joining the discussion!
