Finished up - I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the rare animals and how important they were to own. The only character I came away liking was Isidore - poor guy!
I think the only thing that seemed out of place were the last couple of chapters. It was almost like after the climax, the author went of on some existential tangent

Not gonna lie - there is a good chance I might give this book 5 stars. I am just crazy enough to do it!

I feel bad for Isidore. He is getting the short end of the stick in this story. He seems like such a nice guy who just wants some friends - but instead he ends up meeting some jerk androids that use him and treat him like crap.

The odd thing about this book: I am really enjoying it, but I am not quite sure what is happening and it feels like it is taking forever to read.

This book is much better than expected. I thought it was going to be super wacky and confusing. (I read that
William Gibson left the theater when watching Blade Runner because it was too similar to the book he was working on,
Neuromancer, and he feared it would skew his writing. Neuromancer was so confusing, so I expected more of the same).

Amis made an appearance again, too. I am pondering the point of this. One theory I am having is that by putting himself in the book is that he is saying "See, this is just a story I made up! None of John's messed up life reflects my life. So, don't make the mistake of thinking that!"

John, John, oh, John . . .
I am pretty sure I just discovered the love of his life is a prostitute. Not that he loves a prostitute that loves him back, but that he has talked the entire book so far about having a future with, but whom he pays every time they are together (not clear until halfway through - you really think this is his companion)
His step mom is proud of being in a raunchy porno mag - and she and his dad show it off to him at every opportunity.
John's life is just sad!

If you didn't see the discussion taking place on the poll itself, if you voted for one of the books that is far behind in the poll, feel free to change your vote to one of the top 4 if you would like to help break the dead lock!
I thought about reducing it to the top 4, but I don't want people who voted for the others to think that their votes don't matter!

This one is a tight race too! Get out and ROCK THE VOTE! :)

Interesting - we mentioned
Vurt above and, when I was discussing it in my other book club, I mentioned several Lewis Carroll references - including the Slithy Tove night club. In
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, I just encountered a character mentioned whose last name is Borogrove. Both Jabberwocky references . . . coincidence?

I like the idea of kippleization - I very much believe in clutter spawning clutter!

To accompany our BIG read starting in October, we will be reading a book from one of our lists that has under 200 pages.

If you ever feel bad about not having enough money so that you can live an expensive lifestyle where excess is not an issue. Or, if you ever have guilt about your partying days in college thinking you may have overdone it. Read this and you will feel much better about your life!

GRAGH! I am still asleep.
I mean, what comment - what are you guys talking about!?

Check out my comment in the poll. I am thinking of removing the one vote and less books from the running. Let me know what you think.

Oh man, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep is sooooo much more normal and easy to follow than Vurt - and this is my second time through Vurt!
I am definitely enjoying this so far - more than I expected. I never thought I would read about someone looking up the blue book value of an ostrich!

Another cameo by the author! Makes me wonder if Amis based this book on some random guy he met when he was out and about and he gave that guy a backstory and it became Money.

I am pretty sure John has to say the word "money" at least once a page. It is in his contract.
John's encounter with Martin Amis was amusing. The author having a little fun at his own expense.

Grrrrrrr . . . like, so, you should like, you know, not give people grief and stuff . . .
