152301 I finished the 2nd. It was entertaining too but heavy on romance and Gideon was really annoying. I liked a lot the gargoyle and all the ghosts parts, I find they really fun. The new characters were interesting too.

Overall, this book was less interesting than the 1st as there were few new discoveries and few things happening, but it was an easy read too and it was good to help me busy my mind with silly things.

152301 Ah finally, someone else who doesn't loved it!

I think we can't see your reviews as your profile is private (except for friends) ;)

152301 For me too, some books were soothing this year, so I took care to choose similar subjects for several 2016 categories.

I'm happy the group was a nice escape for some members when life was (very) difficult. I find very pleasant to have a so friendly group of persons who share the same love for reading, even if it's not in the same genres. I'm enjoying a lot to discuss books or see opinions about them (and the book comments in my timeline are a funny touch too) :)

152301 I'm reading the series (started for the translation week) and enjoyed the 1st book. It was really easy to read (very YA) and I was interested in the story and the characters.

I saw in your progress posts that the 3rd is the best, so I suppose I'll enjoy the full series (it took me only one day for the 1st, it will probably be the same for the others).

152301 I just finished it (read it in a day), it was entertaining and I liked the characters (very nice supportive cast). The story was nice, even if the twists were highly predictable. I liked the paranormal stuff on top of the time travel, it adds an interesting touch to the story, even if for the moment you know very few things about all the powers. I'm looking forward to the sequels to discover more about everything.

152301 Which book did you read? Ruby Red

Did you enjoy it? Yes, it was entertaining, easy to read and I liked the characters and the story.

In which langage was the book written? German

Do you often read translated books? Yes, as I often read manga (I don't read japanese). For the novels, once in a while, I read translations from german. When the book is english I usually don't read a translation, except if the language level is really high.

152301 For those who won't do the challenge next year, you are welcome to join the book discussions if you want (or do a half-challenge for example).

152301 Good! It's in my plan for 2016. One of my friends totally loved it too.
I haven't seen the movie, so I'll check it after the book.

To Kill a Mockingbird was pretty good, I hope you'll enjoy it :)

152301 Hmm, you had me at "zombie". I've to read this!

152301 Congrats :)

What are your favorite books from the challenge?
Nov 11, 2015 02:20AM

152301 Sophie, yes Crocmou is nice (Toothless is ok too) but I can't understand why Hiccup is "Harold". Sometimes, changes are super bad!

Silvia, it's good to know the series is good. Yes, they are totally aimed at children, which is usually not a problem for me if the story is interesting.

152301 o What book(s) would you or have you recommend(ed)?
Hollow World, Genesis, Bird Box, Stargirl, Big Little Lies, Uprooted, Nimona, The Emperor's Blades.

o What was the biggest surprise, positive or negative?
Positive: I enjoyed books in genres I usually don't read. I was happy to discover new authors. I liked too to discuss and recommend books, things I usually never do.
Negative: I've to read books in genres I usually don't read and was bored by them.

o Was there something you learned in all this?
Judge a book by the cover :p
And "read plenty of Goodreads Choice Awards", there are very interesting things in there.

o Will you do it again?
Yes, I'm doing our own challenge for 2016, I almost planned all my books already and want to start reading them now.

152301 I really love the Dragons movies (I haven't seen the animated series on TV but will do it at some point), so I decided to have a look at the books.

Even if there are several similar points regarding the characters (like... the names), it's really different from the movie. Toothless is not a night fury and is more like a selfish little brat! However, I enjoyed this one and I think it's a good book for children.

I also read the 2nd in the series, pirate oriented this time, but found it average. I've to continue to see if the series improves or if the stories are not really interesting after the 1st book.

152301 For once, I preferred a lot the movie!
Nov 11, 2015 01:25AM

152301 The characters didn't work for me, but I'm glad I read it for the cultural side!

152301 I'm reading some YA/children/graphic novels/debut during the nominations, so I'll have less choices for the 2016RC and I can vote! So far, the new books I read were interesting and I wouldn't have read them without the nominations :)
