For something light and smooth in fantasy, I recommend: The Emperor's Edge, Howl's Moving Castle and The Invisible Library.
Welcome Shelly :)You can start at week 29 and catch-up the previous weeks if you have time. If you finished books before starting the challenge, you can see if they fit in some categories, so you'll check several more weeks. And of course, you can do only a part of the challenge if you don't have enough reading time.
Do what is easier/better for you, the goal of the challenge is to have fun and discover new books.
Joy, I really like the magazine idea (I never thought about it for a short read, but it fits well). However, I'm not sure it's possible for everyone to read something from his birth year, maybe you can change it to "year or month"? What do you think? :)
I tried Watchmen but wasn't really interested in it, I'd the same problem with V for Vendetta (I succeeded to finish this one). They are classics but not for everyone!I just finished Seraphina as a side-read and loved it. I'm happy to see you enjoyed the sequel, as the reviews are not enthusiast. Now, I've some hope I'll like it too.
We are halfway done with Week 29! You are travelling to an interesting place this week. This discussion thread is solely for your progress. (Book discussions go in individual threads.)
What did you read this week?
Which place did you visit?
Did you enjoy the book?
Does another destination interest you?
30 suggestions ("previous rule" is for "short+challenging").For the length, around 200pages max, for a book for adults.
I never heard about this one and after watching your review, I won't add it to my reading list :pThe plot is interesting but I can see how an author can totally fail with it. I suppose it can work well only if the baby is born with a new great ability for example. If you stay focused on the pregnancy, it's a little dull and not very dystopian (you can totally read the same book with the current pregnancy care, I suppose if you don't want to do all the tests or take the pills, doctors and people won't be very supportive).
The topic for the first round of SHORT suggestions is posted! Follow the new rules for this one, please!https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The next (normal) suggestion topic will be opened on Tuesday, July 28.
3 of the mini-polls will be devoted strictly to "small book" suggestions, allowing for one short book each month (so people could catch-up or read other books), this is the 1st. The rules are a little different, so don't forget to look at them. Rules:
- Your suggestion needs to follow: "something short + something challenging".
Examples: "a short story with a one word title" or "a picture book with blue on the cover".
- Suggestions close after 30 suggestions (following the previous rule)
- You can participate even if you made a suggestion for the 3rd batch.
- One suggestion per poll per user
- 4 votes per poll per user
Next (normal) suggestion topic: Tuesday, July 28
Jeanie, for week 37, everything set in a future is fine, so you can use a book like 1984 or a book happening after our present. For week 49, for me, yes it's in script format.
I'd a hard time choosing a book with a color in December, but I hadn't read The Picture of Dorian Gray (a classic), so it was a nice idea to use it for this week. Since, I added other colorful titles in my challenge, like Black Feathers or Ruby Red.Summary:
Written in his distinctively dazzling manner, Oscar Wilde’s story of a fashionable young man who sells his soul for eternal youth and beauty is the author’s most popular work.
Week 39: a book with a color in the title.September 24 - September 30, 2015
Easy rule this week, as you only have to choose a book with a color in the title! We'll have a rainbow topic, full of purple and green and blue and whatever is a color. Amazing!
How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author, please). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.
2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?
3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.
4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!
**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

Week 38: a book set in high school.September 17 - September 23, 2015
Teenagers are so curious creatures. They often live in their bedroom, doing strange stuff, and when they go out, it's in groups, maybe to avoid dangers. Most of them spend their days in some strange buildings, to learn things and to make friends. Sometimes, romance is involved and since some years, vampires too. Not sure it's really safe now to be in high school, with all this teeth, broken hearts and drama (and exams).
You'll be brave and return to high school for this week (if you're younger and in high school, you're already brave), there is plenty of choices from paranormal books to contemporary fiction ones, so you'll probably find a pleasant story.

What did you read this week? Steve JobsThis memoir is devoted to...
Steve Jobs and his part on the high tech industry.
Did you enjoy the book?
I enjoyed it as an historical book, it was really interesting to see how Apple and Pixar became what they are now, or how the Apple's products were created. On the biographical side, the external point of view lacks lots of things I'd like to know about Jobs.
Did you learn something interesting about life or people?
Yes, currently you have to be creative in lots of works, it's almost a required quality. But people can make great things without this creativity, Jobs for example was a visionary man, not a creative one. I like the idea of a world balanced between different personalities and that the combination of different people is the way to build great things.
It's my bad review book. I'm intrigued too, I hope I won't be in the hate party and rather in the like one.
It's easier to see what you don't like than what you like :DI haven't read The Selection for the moment, but I'm curious about it. Not sure I could enjoy it.
