118012 Shelf bender sounds great. I could see that as the next step after doorstopper.

118012 It looks like you did really well Sonia! Maybe next year there should be another way to complete a pie without having to do all of the themes.

118012 In 2018, my primary focus will be on reading books that I already own, and on making progress with the many series that I've started.

I'll be supplementing these goals with challenges that help me tackle books that I've had on my shelves for a while, and I also intend to allow for some spontaneity to keep things fun. Reading should never be a chore, after all.
Dec 30, 2017 05:52PM

118012 Ok, thanks Rosemarie. I think I'll go for that one.
Dec 30, 2017 04:41PM

118012 This is such a tough genre for me. I'm not a big fan of contemporary or literary fiction. But, I will try to stretch myself. I have a couple of possibilities on my shelves:

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry

The Lost Book of the Grail - This is the one I'm more interested in, but it feels like cheating because it's a literary mystery, so not pure fiction... but it's literary... that counts, right?

I love Elizabeth Gaskell, Linda. The only thing about Wives & Daughters is it was unfinished at her death so it leaves you hanging. But there's a BBC adaptation that I really like that gives you an ending.

118012 Jenny wrote: "I would suggest a challenge like the Chunkster and Doorstopper for books over 1000 pages. I feel like they rate a special caragory, since they are as long as a doorstopper and chunkster put together."

I could go for that. I was thinking the same thing when I looked at my 1000 page books - need extra credit for those :)

What could be bigger than a doorstopper??

Yes, it's a bit daunting so we'll see if I have the motivation to start it. Good luck with Pickwick Papers!

Hi Stephanie, yes you can use a title for multiple challenges. The only exception is on the mini challenges.
