118012 So, how many books did you read in April? We seem to be on track so far! :)

(For our new members: We're trying to see if we as a group can read 10,000 books this year, so at the end of each month each member counts up how many books they've read, and they post that number to that month's tally thread. Every member is free to join in!)

Note: No conversation in this thread, please. If you have questions or comments about this challenge, you can post them in the Group-wide Goal: Can We Reach 10,000 thread - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

118012 What would be your response to the following (all too common) question -

"You're reading again? Don't you ever do anything besides read?"

I've been asked this question at least a thousand times throughout my life, and yet almost every time my mind goes blank in the moment and I think of the perfect response an hour later, when the person who said it is no longer around. So come on, let's all practice our sarcasm and disdain, and make certain that none of us will be left without an appropriate response to this irritating question again!

118012 Thanks, Kassandra and Renee! I find it's the best way to recharge my batteries when life is getting me down. :)

I've been meaning to read Time and Again for months, and somehow I've never gotten around to it. I think I'll start it tomorrow, just so I know I'll actually read it this time!

118012 Nix what I posted earlier. I've decided that May will be my Do-Tons-and-Tons-of-Reading-While-Neglecting-Everything-Else-In-Life Month. I'm in desperate need of one. So, my new list...

Journey to the Center of the Earth
Children of Dune
American Gods
Mrs. Dalloway
A Room of One's Own
Time and Again
The Satanic Verses
My Cousin Rachel
The House of the Dead
The Little Prince (in French)

And any others that strike my fancy throughout the month. Basically, I plan on going book-crazy. Woot!

It's basically a spreadable chocolate bar. What's not appealing? :P

118012 I'm really picky about poetry. I love The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, most of Sir Walter Raleigh's poems, and Lewis Carroll's nonsense verse, if that counts. I tried to get into W.H. Auden after falling in love with Funeral Blues (Stop all the clocks), but... I don't know, I'm still waiting for a poet to really GRAB me, you know?

Aw, that's so cute! LOL

118012 I'm finally reading The Jungle Book! Should have read it 25 years ago, but better late than never...

118012 I count them, unless I read a book more than once in the same year, in which case I would only count it once.

I'll try and get round to it, but May is looking to be really busy!"

Same here, I don't know how I'll get any reading done at all in May, but I'm determined to try!

Have read the Ocean and the end of the Lane and The Graveyard..."

I've read Good Omens and Ocean at the End of the Lane. Really loved the first, enjoyed the second for the most part. I'm a sucker for mythology, too. :)

I love to read a bunch of different books at a time. It keeps life interesting!
