I think this nomination fits the YA thread better."
Definitely. I'll add this to the YA poll, Lucy. It was only written last year, so it can't really be called a classic yet.

Yes, it does. :)

I would like to nominate Flowers for Algernon for the genre read: In this classic story that inspired the hit movie by the same name. Charlie Gordon, a mentally ..."
That's a great book. :)

To keep it fair and open for all, only one nomination per member, please. If possible, please use the "add book/author" feature when nominating a book so that people can click the link and see what the book is about.
This thread will close once we have a few nominations, and the poll will open for voting shortly after.

I always find it funny when people say that, because I wouldn't have related to it in my teens either. :P

Eek, I'm sorry to hear that, Karen!

I'm on a roll! 4 books in the last 2 days. I admit, 3 of them were Shakespeare plays, which are rather short, but still. I'm actually reading! :D"
They may be short, but they sure pack a punch!

I've gotten back into reading though, finally, which is great :D"
Yes, it's great to have you back with us! :D

Good luck with your exams, Holly!

Thanks! I'm still working on my first book, but every now and then I write a short story so I can get that feeling of accomplishment at having completed something.

Definitely, I found it the perfect way to train myself to write dialogue and construct an intricate plot, while not having to start the whole "world" of the story from scratch. I haven't written any in ages, but I still get the urge sometimes. I'm just so strapped for cash these days that I feel like any writing time I get needs to be spent on something publishable. Not as fun, though, I have to say!

No, the only writing I've ever posted online was fanfiction, and that was years ago.

I might, if it comes down to that. Self-publishing is actually pretty common in Canada, since we have very few major publishing houses and a lot of talented writers. I've only submitted 2 short stories to magazines thus far, though, so I'm not ready to make that decision yet.

Also, The Catcher in the Rye. All I knew about this book before I read it was that it's one of the top must-read books in American literature. It didn't give me a very good opinion of American literature, I have to say. I thought it was awful. Every sentence was excruciating, but I forced myself to finish it because I figured the ending would have a twist or something, and I would understand why it's so popular. Nope... nothing. Just a waste of my time.
