This has been a popular book over the last year, so I hope people like it!

What have been some of your favourite reads of the year so far? Any you'd recommend? Any you have particular strong opinions about?

You can check them out here.
We've got loads of great nominations, so make sure you place your vote! Voting closes 25th Jan!

1. When Books Went to War: The Stories that Helped Us Win World War II by Molly Guptill Manning
2. Gratitude by Oliver Sacks
3. The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith
4. The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

A wonderful novel (with definitely complex characters). It was interesting having seen the film before reading the book to explore how they adapted it, and what they changed. In case anyone hasn't seen Carol yet, definitely watch it. It's a beautiful film!
I'll definitely try and read more of Patricia Highsmith. I didn't realise she had done the Mr Ripley series, which I've seen on my parent's bookshelves for a long time. Though I've heard her novel Strangers on a Train is very good.

I too was quite surprised, that there was honestly little about direct 'gratitude'. Instead, I think it was Sacks' way of highlighting the general gratitude you should have towards life, not so much a specific gratitude. He was generally grateful for his life, and his experiences and that really showed within the essays.

Wandered round some charity shops and 'accidently' bought:
Middlesex
The Long Earth
H is for Hawk
The Danish Girl
plus I already have my next set of reads planned out...
