118012 For our final month, we're looking at Howl's Moving Castle, a classic that was made into that massively popular film!

Reading started December 1st!

118012 Everyone's input has been fantastic and it's really helped us grasp what we want to get out of next year!

So we have (what we believe to be), our final two questions:

We've had the Points Challenge as our group-wide project this year. Would you like to see another group-wide project for next year? If so, what kind of thing would you be interested in?

and:

Would like to see a new group picture and banner theme? If so, any preferences?

As always, general comments are always welcome about the group! If we feel like we've missed anything out with this questions, tell us what you want to change/add or develop. We want to know what you want!

118012 Definitely. If two people want to go for it and lead the discussion, I don't see anything wrong with that!

118012 I think it's because buddy reads are smaller and less intimidating maybe? Group reads can be hard to maintain momementum throughout the month, where as buddy reads are far more focused on particular people reading it each.

Hopefully, with less group reads, and a bit more structure to them, we'll see a lot more discussion going on. And I'd love to personally push buddy reads next year, there aren't enough going on :)

But it's not negative at all, Roseanne. It's a valid point we want to address next year!

118012 Not really. I have it ready on my kindle to start, so whenever :)

118012 I'll join! I'm happy to set up the thread if you want :)

118012 Wonderful idea Chase. Maybe a mini-challenge is in order for this?

118012 Hi guys,

We are planning on reducing the group reads to only two per month! That way we'll hopefully get more participation! We too have thought it's been a bit complicated this year.

118012 Go Megan!
Nov 16, 2015 09:14AM

118012 I generally plan to read books that are on my TBR list. Then I allow myself time for books (or squirrels as we call them here) that I can use to read books that I find throughout the month.

Just allow yourself space to explore books you find, while also planning your reading! :D

118012 New questions up! We're checking out your ideas and feedback and the response has been amazing! Thank you so much!

Concerning current aspects of the group: Is there anything you don't like or would like to see done differently?

and: We are currently designing some accomplishment badges for things you complete, that you can add to your personal challenge thread. Would these interest you?

118012 Megan, we were discussing a book-movie adaptation challenge or something for next year, but if you want to take the reigns, go for it! Make it shine!

& to confirm, I believe all of these challenge are due to start at the beginning of the new year.

118012 We essentially want you guys to enjoy your reading, so we generally don't control what counts with what. This group is meant to be lighthearted and fun, so we don't want to limit you guys too much!

118012 Thanks for the responses guys! They've been amazing!

Two questions for you now!

Is there something you would like to see added to the group?

And this is applicable if you vote/participate in group reads:
Do you read the books for which you vote and/or participate in the Group Read discussions?

118012 Ooooh, I'll do a buddy read for that!

118012 Karen, I'd recommend using an exclusive shelf (like the to-read, and currently reading lists). That way you can keep it separate from your own books but on a shelf.

118012 QUESTION 1: What are you favorite elements?

Whether it be official or unofficial set-ups, what do you enjoy most about the group?

118012 Hi everyone,

Us mods have been planning away preparing for next year's set up, but we ultimately want to base our decisions on your views and opinions about the group and the way its run. We obviously want to make the group the best it can be, so we'd love your help to do that. We don't want a dictatorship here... ;)

Over the course of the new few weeks, we'll be posting questions on this thread every couple of days to try and see what you like/dislike about the group, and how we can change that.

Even if you have a simple answer or want to talk generally about the group, we'd love to hear your responses. If you want to sum up all your ideas/suggestions in one post, you're more than welcome to. Honestly, this is a thread we want you guys to use to what you wish, to change and influence what we'll do next year. We just want any feedback we can get. Any response is a useful response!

Note: if you have anything you'd rather not say in the thread, feel free to message me or any of the Mods to have a bit more privacy. We'd be more than happy to communicate that way if needs be.
118012 Deborah, just to confirm, I meant the history of the term, and the connotations of, not the actual movement. But your message made me smile. I always find it fascinating talking to people about second wave feminism. And yes to angry women! Considering society, we should be!
118012 I honestly doubt they were even real or significant until the media/other parties got involved with them. You see some comics about second wave feminists and they're always so negative and stereotypical. Some may be satire, but I have seen some being serious.

I've had discussions with people my age about feminism and how they don't wish to use the label because of all the connotations, which honestly makes me sad.

I have also finished this book. I went on a bit of a rant with my review (both good and bad), but everyone can see it here. :)
