118012 Srividya, glad you can join us, and it's great to see you back again! :D

118012 Don't forget, we're always looking for new challenges, so if you have any ideas, feel free to set up a thread in the 'Mini-Challenges' folder. Doesn't matter how big or small they are!
118012 I read them far quicker than I read classics, so it might be better to do that. I actually have the rest of the Mortal Instruments series to read, so that might be a good one to do, to get it ticked off my list.

Regardless, I'm going off topic. I'll definitely be doing this group-read!
118012 Hopefully you'll be able to partake in other ones, Kiwi! I know we're definitely planning on doing one for December, in order to really push for those goals!

I can't decide what to read for this. Do I try get some key reading for University done (but then I'll have to take notes and that will slow me down), or should I focus on books I'm probably not going to get round to before I finish this year of Uni? Decisions!

118012 Just finished The Charioteer and my god, I love it. A really beautiful portrayal of gay love and homosexuality in the WW2 era, and really tastefully, innocently done!

One that I've added to my favourites shelf.
118012 I might actually incorporate this into my readathon. Haven't 100% decided what I'm going to read for it yet, and I'm thinking quite modern books!

118012 They sound like amazing ideas, Renee! Very excited to see how they come about. :)
118012 It seems to me that I'm the only one who hasn't read this!

118012 I think I'm gonna go with The Last Lecture! Hopefully I can fit it in before the end of the challenge!

In case anyone hasn't noticed, the events calendar is and running in the General folder, entitled 'What's On In The Group'.

118012 Yep, it was originally a really short challenge, but due to the amount of people interested, I decided to lengthen it!

118012 That is very true. I'm expecting to struggle through Wuthering Heights, but I know I'll feel accomplished when I finish it.

118012 Go Renee! Do you feel all accomplished now?

118012 Fascinating idea! Really gets you a mix. I'll be watching this thread in earnest!
118012 I'd love to do a buddy-read of Wuthering Heights, if anyone is interested. I've started it a few times, but have never got round to finishing it. Now I need to because I'm studying it at Uni next year. So discussing it would definitely help to get me through it!

118012 If I know I want/need to get a book finished, I move myself away from every living person (usually shut up in my bedroom), and remove all electronic devices from my reach. That way I don't get distracted and can fully immerse myself, and then the reading seems to fly by.

I completely agree with the page targets, Faye! I find I try to do a certain number in an hour. I'll definitely try the 5 pages one, and see how it goes. My poor eyes are bad enough as they are (seriously, I have awful eyesight), I doubt looking away is going to save them from more fuzziness! Nevertheless, I will give it a go!

118012 I've never actually looked into it! I've been meaning to, but it's just so big and daunting I have kind of avoided it.

118012 Just googled her, and she definitely seems like an inspiration! (my career goal is going into libraries)

Just had a quick read through of her Wikipedia pages and her work seems really interesting!

I think they seem pretty seriously, and not so much a gimmick!
118012 It actually happens quite frequently! Because it can't be referenced explicitly, there are a few instances where I think they're talking about being gay, but are actually talking about killing a man or something else. I think it definitely adds to the tension in the book, and is a really good plot device.

I am, however, convinced Laurie was kissed in that chapter!

118012 Do you have a good technique to aid reading for long periods of time? Know how to maximise your reading speed? Here's where to post them!

Note: Don't forget to sign up at the group event!
118012 How much do you think you can pack into 24 hours? Here you can specify books you are planning on reading. Or are you planning to finish ones off you've already started?
