118012 Man, audiobook loans sound awesome. Don't think anywhere nearby does them...

The university is like insanely big, and they don't have any modern editions of things, so most of them are really old and dusty and lovely. (Totally going weird now...).

So it's really amazing browsing the sections (800s in Dewey hell yes).

But currently I have The Study of Language, for my Introduction to Language module, Manhattan Transfer and The Book of Illusions are for my American Lit module, and Dracula, The Castle of Otranto and Maurice
for my personal reading!

It's max 25 books... I could reasonably hit that...

118012 Living up to your title, I see! ;)

118012 Although it is like two weeks late, I thought it would be good to celebrate 'Banned Book Week'.

Dates: Sat 4th October - Sat 11th October

Mission: Read at least one book that has been banned in any country, for any length of time.
118012 I think it's shows that mean a lot to me that I don't spoil for myself. Orange is the New Black is one (although I did research how much Alex would be in Season 2). I guess the cultural impacts and the overwhelming representation of the show means I see it as more than just a series of plot points to be figured out and known.
118012 I'm completely the same in that respect, Aitziber. I'm a bit of a spoiler nut when it comes to TV. I'll spoil anything and everything for myself. It's a bad habit. But I do value tv shows really highly.

118012 That sounds so interesting, Aitziber!

118012 Two books that are still on my to-read list. I'll get to them someday!

118012 That can be troublesome. I've found myself being disappointed with some books after all the hype they've received. But then again, the hype can lead to books you'd never think of reading, and loving them. It is definitely a two edged sword!

118012 There are too many books that have been on my to-read list for too long!

I'd love to know what you think of it though. I've heard it garners a lot of different reactions.

118012 I absolutely adore One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest!

118012 Thought this might be a really interesting thread to set up.

Personally, I'm a massive library but. I've volunteered in libraries for most of my teenage years, so while all my fellow freshers are running round terrified about not being able to find books, I'm happily spurting off the Dewey Decimal system!

What books do you have out on loan? Waiting for many?

118012 This thread has just disappeared!

In an effort to get my widget up, I'm reading the short novella 'The Castle of Otranto' because it also fits with the genre of the month!
118012 Mums getting involved? Awesome!

118012 Oddly, I just read Barthe's piece on 'Death of the Author'. Super interesting!

I feel the need for a literary theory thread! :P
118012 God, Sandy! How could you?! :P
Oct 03, 2014 10:03AM

118012 And I should get my two remaining ones done this month! :D
118012 Why would someone even do that? Like WHY?!
Oct 03, 2014 09:00AM

118012 Thanks, Sandy! I'll definitely check them out.
118012 Yeah, updated it on the general October thread, but not this one. I have a bit more time on my hands at the moment because all my lectures and seminars are rather introductory, so trying to fit in as much reading as I can now.

Anything left over on that list will be focused for the readathon! :)
118012 That is certainly an ambitious list, Lucy!

I can wholeheartedly recommend The Woman in White and The Turn of the Screw! Loved them both!
