I finished yesterday.
(view spoiler)[The thriller aspects of this book were good and the structure of the storytelling made we want to keep reading and not put it down and we got bits of the story from Summer and Leo's perspectives and some of their individual backgrounds. I didn't find the twists to be that unexpected - I mean I didn't immediately think Michael was responsible for Amber's death but as soon as he said "How did you find me?" I knew. I also figured Julie was not to be trusted. But what I liked best about this book was the bond between Summer and Leo. I loved that when each was near the end of their rope, they both heard the other's voice in her head cheering them on and helping them push just a little bit harder. I wanted to write more about that in my review but I thought it would be too spoilery since part of the book hinges on Summer wondering if Leo just abandoned her. (hide spoiler)]I also loved the descriptions of So Cal. I grew up in San Diego and reading this made me so homesick for the beach. I am in landlocked Utah now and I never ever stop missing the ocean. I am heading home for the first time since the pandemic this summer and I CAN"T WAIT!

I am at 47% I love the way the book goes back and forth between Summer and Leo. I like Summer way more than I thought I would from the book description. I am basically at the same spot you were Elyse when you said you didn't know where it's going to end up and I feel the same!

I got to Leo's first date last night then I had to go to bed. I hope I have some more time this evening to read because I hated leaving it where I did! So far I think the author did a really good job with the main characters.

I just got this book so I will join you!

I finished a couple books this week. The first was
. I liked the positive tone of this book. Here is my review

today. I loved this one. Partly probably because I think the occult traditions of the last century are fascinating and I love how she combines the occult and movies.

Here's my review

I do mostly audio books and it's funny because i get all annoyed that i have to put my book down every time i have to like fill my water bottle or something because I'm used to just having my books follow me everywhere all the time.

I love how different all her books are

Yay! I am so happy!I just got
Silver Nitrate Silvia Moreno-Garcia's new book. That was on my TBR since the beginning of the year.

I am in the "Facing Your Fears" section right now and then the hubs came in to hang out and saw me crying with my kindle in hand. I was like "give me a minute - I can't leave the book in the spot I am in right now"
Marnie wrote: "On my best of 2023 list. I can’t wait for this to be published so I can give it to people as a gift."I am not even done with the book yet and I already have like 3 people I am gifting this book to!

I just finished part 2 so it seemed like a good spot to stop in and tell my thoughts so far. I am just adoring this story. I wish I could buy it right now on audio so I could make my husband listen to it. He is a farmer so spring is one of his busiest times and he is dyslexic so eyeball reading takes him an inordinately long time.
(view spoiler)[So Lucy just arrived on the Island. I love the stories we've heard so far about Jack. I am hoping for an all around healing for the characters - I am in the mood for a feel-good book. I related to Lucy and Theresa's convo about parents. Not having money obviously makes things harder - but so many kids grow up without money AND other worse things (and teachers see a lot). Lucy and Christopher so obviously love each other it's sad that it is money keeping them apart. I look forward to seeing how the contest effects Hugo! (hide spoiler)]
