These look good - Behind the scenes at the museum has been on my tbr for a while and the Pendle Witches book looks right up my street!
Welcome Maureen! Hope you enjoy the group!@Shirley and Lee - I really want to read the Rawshark Texts - I keep meaning to buy/loan a copy but then forget again! It looks really intriguing..
Hi folks - just got back from Blackpool! Went with a friend to see the illuminations switch on and there was music on as well - pretty cool! Bit hungover now though....Everyone else having a good weekend?
I'm definitely reading The Birds and Other Stories, if I get time I want to read one of the biographies and maybe The House on the Strand. Would love to read Daphne too if I can find a copy.
Wow - very jealous! Let us know what it was like!Re: kindles - I prefer books but I wouldn't be without my kindle. Sometimes just comes down to space (anyone else have the problem of nowhere to put all your books? - I KNOW it isn't just me) and at least ebooks save a few trees as well.
Ellie- the Cheltenham festival sounds great, wish it was closer to me!Lee - that's quite funny - bet your work people thought you'd lost the plot! Bless ya ;)
I Know Hilary, I did my GCSE 15 years ago (goodness, was it really that long?) and there were only 5 of us in the class - it was really unfashionable then so I very much doubt there's many school's teaching it now!@ Lee - I've got a book on How to Read Hieroglyphics but I haven't read it yet, would be awesome thing to be able to read wouldn't it?
The Virago's and the Persephone's look lovely don't they? I want to read them but am afraid to start my collecting mania off - seeing as I have just quit one job for another that isn't secure and pays less, its probably not a great idea!
I had never heard of it either till it got mentioned above - am adding it to my ever-increasing tbr list though as I appreciated* 1984 too.*I was going to say liked but actually 1984 horrified me and I did throw the book across the room at the end. I just wanted Winston to stand up to the system but there was no way he could, they had him completely.
Cool! We did Tacitus - the bit about the invasion of Mona (Anglesey), a bit of Virgil and some of Catullus' love poems. I really enjoyed doing Latin (sound's strange I know)
It doesn't seem religious to me either? Just as if she is talking about Death. It's a good poem but is a bit depressing - did she have a sad life does anyone know? It's just the up-hill all the way bit - you wouldn't say that if your life was generally a happy one.
