I read the books first as well and Tyrion is definitely my favourite character! I wasn't sure they'd be able to get him right in the series but the guy that plays him is great isn't he? Can't wait for Book 6 and Series 3 ;)
The Birds & Other Stories - absolutely brilliant! The title story is very different to the film (or should I say it's the other way round?) but very, very good. The sense of isolation was very powerful and it was kind of scary. The other stories were all great as well, I especially liked Monte Verita. They all had gothic type elements to them and Du Maurier's writing is so good. She is a genius at setting scene and atmosphere.
Well I've been reading the Sherlock Holmes stories again so I decided I wanted to find out more about Conan-Doyle. The Secret Rooms looks good doesn't it?
@ Hilary - his character is called Bronn, he is Tyrion Lannister's mercenary bodyguard. I didn't recognise him at first either!
I'm planning to read:The Birds & Other Stories currently reading
The House on the Strand
Daphne
A Severed Head
Want to finish Vanity Fair - currently reading;
make a start on Mason and Dixon
and have got library books to read before they go back as well: The Calligrapher's Daughter, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, The Secret Rooms: A True Gothic Mystery, Teller of Tales: The Life of Arthur Conan Doyle, In Cold Blood and The Bloody Red Baron (Anno Dracula #2).
I love Whitechapel! It's great telly. I only watched the first episode of Ripper Street so I will need to catch up on the rest cos I was enjoying it.BTW - Jerome is in A Game of Thrones as well - definitely cooler than he used to be!
Are you enjoying it Ellie? I wasn't that keen the first time I read it, I expected another Shadow of the Wind which it isn't but then I re-read it on it's own terms and I loved it!
Supposedly but it was with an agency and haven't had any work so far. Have been off the past week but if I don't hear anything next week will have to go looking elsewhere before my last wages runs out!
Oh dear, I had to buy a copy of the Iris Murdoch book as the library didn't have a copy and while I was on the Awesome books website I 'accidentally' bought The House on the Strand and Daphne as well! Oops ;)
I like the sound of that one actually but my library hasn't got a copy :( Enjoy Don't Look Now, I'm going to start The Birds today I think.
I absolutely loved The Historian - hope you enjoy it Lee.In fact the only one of Jo's recommendations I haven't read is Winter in Madrid so will have to check that one out!
Too many anchovies eh? I think somebody has been spending too much time with Mr Pepys!Sounds like you had a great time though :)
I'm enjoying Vanity Fair - it's a bit tongue in cheek!The Orphan Master's Son is ok, it has got some quite shocking elements but he has mixed it with humour to make his points rather than depress the reader.
