Except I would have the opposite problem to Scott and co and have to use beef instead cos I don't think my local Tesco's stock seal! ;) So we will probably never know....

25. Susan Hill - Howard's End is on the Landing. A Year of Reading from Home
26. Jasper Fforde - The Eyre Affair
27. Rachel Kushner - The Flamethrowers
28. Carson McCullers - The Ballad of the Sad Café and Other Stories
29. Nelson Algren - The Man With the Golden Arm

I've just finished this - took me a while to get into it but then started to appreciate the poetry of it even though the subject matter and the characters are anything but pretty. Finished the last third in a rush as I couldn't put it down -
(view spoiler)[my heart was in my mouth when the police are chasing Frankie (hide spoiler)] and then ending is so melancholy and haunting.
(view spoiler)[ I liked the way he intercut what happened to Sophie with Frankie's last hours as well (hide spoiler)]

I haven't read any Faulkner either but I really should! Looks like we are all very interested in how Antipodes finds
As I Lay Dying.
Jenny - what was it that you struggled with? I've heard that he isn't the easiest author to read...
I'm halfway through the Algren book and have put it on hold for a wee bit to read
The Ballad of the Sad Cafe by Carson McCullers which I'm really enjoying.

Ok so seeing as I'm feeling down about all the amazing gigs I've missed out on - here's another one: Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter & James Cotton

And here's Velvet Underground with I'm Waiting for the Man seeing as it's Lou Reed's birthday too (so much cooler than the Carpenters!)

No Antipodes, don't tell me about that - love Pink Floyd too but unfortunately born a bit too late to see all these bands :( Would've loved to see Hendrix as well - I've actually just ordered myself a t-shirt from Amazon with him on it which should turn up tomorrow yay!

Good Luck Anna - hope you discover some new favourites!

My copy has got some bonus material at the back - has anybody else got this copy. It's really getting the book and Algren into perspective for me, which is a big help.

@ Angela - feeling your pain, I've just done a 12 hour shift (Saturdays are NEVER a day off) and am back in tomorrow lol!
@Antipodes - I am sooooo jealous you got to see Zepplin! That trip sounds amazing!!!

I know who you mean know, he is sometimes on Saturday Kitchen isn't he? Glad you had a nice time!

Glad it went well Ellie but who's Oz Clarke???? I like Jimmy Stewart though - Harvey is one of my fave films ;)

Yeah good luck with that one Sam!

At the moment I'm listening to Nickel Creek (thanks Tracey) and haven't decided what I'm doing yet, going to see my best friend and goddaughter later on for tea - veggie chilli yum!

Hee hee, gotta love a bit of psychedelic 60's folk lol!

Yay love the Zep!!! It isn't raining again down there is it? It's beautiful up here in the (not so) grim North and I'm off work too :)

ooooh exciting! Good luck and enjoy ;)
and Happy Friday to you too!

Thanks Tracey - I've never heard of them before but loved that song so going to check out the rest of their stuff now!

I've never read Lord of the Flies so I'm going to read that one.
