110415 I've just caught up with this thread - those sour milk recipes look awful. I would never have survived on rationing!

110415 It's really good so far, not horror-type scary but definitely a bit creepy in parts.

110415 Cool Jenny, hope you enjoy it!

110415 I keep trying to get it from the library but no luck so far, missed the kindle deal as well although I did get A Tale for the Time Being and The Lowland which were on the booker shortlist.

Am still reading Night Film which I'm really enjoying.

110415 Oooh I'd heard that quote but didn't know what it referred to or who said it so thanks!
I am very intrigued about this book, can't wait to start it...

110415 I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more about the Basque people and the area, I was really interested in learning more about them but I felt like I didn't really know anymore than when I started the book - the stories could probably have been set in any rural area and there didn't seem to be much that was specifically Basque.
110415 Hope it doesn't get too bad up there Hilary! It does sound a bit blowy out but I'm REALLY hung-over so am refusing to leave the safety of the sofa ;)

Also congrat's on 6th months of I Read Therefore I Am!!!!

110415 Yay! This one defo deserves to be there, absolutely brilliant novel.
110415 Also the Guards books are a good intro to discworld - I think the first one featuring them is Guards! Guards!, I'm sure you'll love whichever one you pick - Prattchett is so funny!

110415 Finished The Winter Queen which was a fun mystery although the ending was a shock. Am now reading Leviathan Wakes which is a sci-fi space opera mystery thingy which I'm quite enjoying and also Night Film by Marisha Pessl which is very intriguing so far.

110415 Yeah, I've got some ideas for the summer :)
Feb 06, 2014 03:54AM

110415 Ha ha it wasn't anything special, just it worked for march as it's women's history month so thought we could read something about some famous/important woman or women in history, see what non-fiction or historical fiction we had lurking in our tbr's! But I will think of something summer-themed for us to do later in the year instead.

110415 I was thinking maybe do the summer one over a couple of months, then plenty of time to read it. Then there's a nice big gap between then and Hallowe'en. We'll leave it till may/june time then, and I'll have a think about a theme cos my spring idea won't work anymore ;)
Feb 05, 2014 01:31PM

110415 I'm starting to think about the spring seasonal side-read.... I'm tempted to let it run through march and april to take the pressure off cos everyone seems to be very busy. What do you all think, or do you just want to give it a miss until the summer???
110415 Nice picture Hilary!

110415 Cool, have been meaning to have a go at Dostoyevsky for a while so once I finish the Eliot I'll start catching up!

110415 I haven't heard of it Hilary, although I liked Schindler's Ark too.

How is The Idiot so far? Haven't started yet as I'm still reading Daniel Deronda and I can only do one big fat classic at a time. I'm also reading Boris Akhunin's The Winter Queen which is a fairly quick read (I'm already half way through) but I'm enjoying it.
110415 Hope everyone is staying safe in the crazy weather! Have seen the pictures on the news - looks impressive (would like to see the photo's of the Bore) but better from a distance ;)
