Billy Batson's fortune was stolen from him by a wicked uncle. The wizard Shazam gave his magical powers to Billy before being crushed by a suspended block of rock. The magic word Shazam stands for the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury. When Billy speaks the wizard's name, he becomes a super-powered man who looks about 22.
