Want to Read More This Year? Join the 2016 Reading Challenge!
Forget about drinking more water or getting in shape! Our favorite New Year's resolution is definitely this: Read More Books. And we're guessing it's yours, too. Make it easier by creating a reading goal and tracking your progress with the 2016 Reading Challenge on Goodreads!

Will it be one book every other month? Or maybe one book a week? A day? It's up to you! Your goal can be any size. To get started, just choose the number of books you'd like to read this year.
Not sure what to read next? Don't worry! Here are a few ways to build your want-to-read list on Goodreads:
- Recommendations: To get recommendations tailored just for you, rate books you've already read. The more books you rate, the better your recommendations will be!
- Giveaways: Did you know you can enter book giveaways for a chance to win free books?
- Lists: You can also browse the thousands of lists on Listopia—where you'll find categories ranging from classic (Best Books of the 21st Century) to niche (Best Alpha Male Alien Meets Human Heroine Romance).
- Goodreads Choice Award winners: Peruse the results of the recently announced 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards, with winners and runners-up in 20 categories!
And it never hurts to have some social support when working toward a goal, so check out the many Goodreads groups that host reading challenges across every topic, theme, and genre imaginable.
In 2015, Goodreads members pledged to read more than 94 million books! What is your 2016 goal? Tell us in the comments!

Oh to be young again...:)
Good luck to all!
I would like to read 24 books - @ 2 per month, across leadership, self development ,management and auto/biographies. The last is a new genre I would like to add to my favourites. I have kept a modest target and hope to exceed it

Plus, like with any skill, if you practice enough you get faster/better.

Johnny wrote: "They only set one or two books as their challenge?"what's the meaning of the challenge, then.
I set my goal to 20 this year. :( I barely completed any books last year due to my crazy schedule. I'm setting my sights on actually spending time reading this year.

This might be off topic, so I apologize. But after I entered in my challenge amount and left the challenge page, I couldn't find it again without leaving the site and searching for it on google. How am I going to remember this is active if I don't seen it on my home page when I log into goodreads???

My reading average has TANKED with my son... my pregnancy trashed my concentration and I haven't gotten it back yet. So now that he is a toddler and I am hoping to read a modest 12 books this year at minimum. One per month sounds reasonable... Even if I have to read only at bedtime this should be doable. *fingers crossed*
If this works, my 2017 pledge will be more daring. ☺

Just wondering... These people who plan to read over 100 books - do they count comics? Because that's about the only way I can imagine them actually reaching their goal.
Anne wrote: "Just wondering... These people who plan to read over 100 books - do they count comics? Because that's about the only way I can imagine them actually reaching their goal."Or perhaps they are counting audiobooks towards their total?

That's one possibility, too.

I work too, and it's true I'd like to have more time to read, but I think my goals will never be in terms of volume.

I almost feel guilty for saying I am going to read 200+ books but the books I read can be finished in an hour easy so it isn't a stretch. I think it is important to remember you are only in competition with yourself.

Reading over 100 books can be challenging with a family and a full-time job, but it can be done. I've done it successfully for years before I ever heard of Goodreads. I log title and author with date read. Geeky, I know. I don't count comics, but I do count YA & anything over 100 pages:) Try it! You'll be surprised! Find books/authors you enjoy and go for it!

This means you read a book every 14-15 hours in 2015. Really? DO you work?
Danielle wrote: "I had a total of 609 last year including my re-reads. Wonder how many I can do this year :)"This means you read a book every 14-15 hours nonstop the entire year of 2015. Really? Do you work? That seems a little unbelievable. If not, wow.
Danielle wrote: "I had a total of 609 last year including my re-reads. Wonder how many I can do this year :)"I would be interested in what books you read Danielle. 609 books in 365 days is more than 2 books every 3 days, do you recall anything you read? or were you reading "The Cat In The Hat" and "the Three Little Pigs"? I may be being unkind; if you are able to sit and read all day long, it would be possible. However Although I love reading and always have at least one book in progress I would think that doing nothing else but reading all day every day would be unhealthy.

That's what I've been thinking too! I mean, I'm a college student so planning for more than 70 books is impossible..
