2015 was a year for getting reacquainted with reading. Got through 30-35 books, which isn't the greatest feat but is way above my usual average in recent years. I've tended to fall in and out of reading the last decade, though now, in this last year I've felt pretty inspired to catch up, and for 2016, of course I hope to at least double my last count.

Well, I tend to read a combination of short books (150 pages and under) that take me only a day, and longer ones that take me three or four days (300 pages or more) with the occasional long book (500 pages+) that take me over a week to read. I read every single night before I go to sleep, no matter how late I get to bed. I aim to read at least 20 pages (or one chapter) a night, but usually end up reading 80-100 pages unless I'm really tired from a late night the night before. I don't commute or listen to audio books, 90%+ of my books are physical, although I'm trying to read more of my Kindles this year.

For me it totally depends on the book. There are days where I blow through two books in one day, because the books grab me, hold me hostage, and don't let me go until the last page lol (those are the days where we eat off of paper plates and everyone is wearing dirty clothes because mom didn't get to any housework buwahaha).
I also have a very low tolerance for books that don't grab me in the first few pages-my Did Not Finish list is up to around 60 books now. I have no problem ditching a book that doesn't interest me in the first 50 pages. There's just too many awesome books out there, to waste time on crappy ones :)
As for my yearly goal: last year I read 119 books and this year I've set my goal for 125 books. I'm also going to make an effort to include four 500+ page books, and then two 800+ page books (finally going to tackle Outlander!). I'm also starting a personal challenge this year, to read 1 million more pages in my lifetime, so I'll be tracking pages read for the first time :)

50. I barely eked that out in 2015 by reading some very short novels and comics at the end but if I don't slack off in the middle of the year I should be fine. It's just that I watch a lot of tv and like to listen and discover music on top of my job, working out, etc. So I doubt I could ever read more than 75 in a year anytime soon so I stuck with 50 to not overwhelm myself.
Lol, the people saying 100-200 are either joking or have no jobs or lives. But who am I to talk since I've been playing World of Warcraft since 2005... I'm shooting for 30 books :)
Danielle wrote: "I had a total of 609 last year including my re-reads. Wonder how many I can do this year :)"That's a lie. 365 days in a year...it is physically impossible to read almost 2 books a day unless your books are more like short stories or novellas...
Mike wrote: "Lol, the people saying 100-200 are either joking or have no jobs or lives. But who am I to talk since I've been playing World of Warcraft since 2005... I'm shooting for 30 books :)"There you go. The gaming & movie hours go to books instead. Comuting also creates reading hours.
My reading has slowed down a lot with other things going on. This year I want to read at least 1 a month which I wasn't able to do last year, if I can do more than that I'll be happy as it means I've found more me time.
I am aiming for a tentative 100, but will surely go for 80 books this year. I hated the series novels previous but going for the classics this year LOTR, GOT etc. Also in parallel participating in these challenges:

I think it doesn't really matter how many books you read a year, as long as you learn something from them. I believe it's much better to read just one book and learn a great deal from it than read hundred books and forget quickly what those books were actually about. It is quality rather than quantity that matters.
I'm going to read 50 books in 2016 though I don't know if my time allows it. Well, at least I'll try.

Not joking or lying, just lucky enough not to have to work. Instead of spending all my spare time playing video games I choose to read. It's a personal choice. You don't know anyone else's personal circumstances so why would decide to call thousands of GR users 'liars'? Maybe someone who doesn't know your personal circumstances would see your goal and call you slack... You shouldn't judge when you have no idea what you're talking about.
I was aiming for 500 in 2015 and got 609. I hope I'll do as good this year, although I'll keep the goal at 500. No pressure. :)
Well, I read 202 books in 2015, so maybe I'll go for more nonfiction in 2016. I pledge to read at least 5 nonfiction books in 2016.

That's my question, too! I only have time to read in the evenings, when I'm home - maybe 5 nights a week. The books I like are usually adult titles, including nonfiction, and have some substance, which means taking my time and savoring a good story or understanding some new information. I guess I'm saying the number of books we get through is related to our choice of material.
