Want to Read More This Year? Join the 2016 Reading Challenge!

Posted by Jessica on January 1, 2016
Forget about drinking more water or getting in shape! Our favorite New Year's resolution is definitely this: Read More Books. And we're guessing it's yours, too. Make it easier by creating a reading goal and tracking your progress with the 2016 Reading Challenge on Goodreads!

Will it be one book every other month? Or maybe one book a week? A day? It's up to you! Your goal can be any size. To get started, just choose the number of books you'd like to read this year.

Not sure what to read next? Don't worry! Here are a few ways to build your want-to-read list on Goodreads:

- Recommendations: To get recommendations tailored just for you, rate books you've already read. The more books you rate, the better your recommendations will be!
- Giveaways: Did you know you can enter book giveaways for a chance to win free books?
- Lists: You can also browse the thousands of lists on Listopia—where you'll find categories ranging from classic (Best Books of the 21st Century) to niche (Best Alpha Male Alien Meets Human Heroine Romance).
- Goodreads Choice Award winners: Peruse the results of the recently announced 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards, with winners and runners-up in 20 categories!

And it never hurts to have some social support when working toward a goal, so check out the many Goodreads groups that host reading challenges across every topic, theme, and genre imaginable.

In 2015, Goodreads members pledged to read more than 94 million books! What is your 2016 goal? Tell us in the comments!

Nancy Castillo 50!
My goal for 2015 was 40, so hopefully I'll read 10 more this year:)
Anyway, for me personally it's not so much about quantity, I just hope I'll find some really awesome books that'll stay with me.

Good luck everyone!

Tyler Wanden Props to everyone for setting their reading goals for this year, I would if I could... but as soon as I start thinking about page numbers or book counts then reading becomes a task. My goal is to simply read as many books as I want to (just living my year book to book)

Must be nice to not have to work or take care of kids, or have any kind of life for that matter! Good luck with that insane number, however.

So all you do is go to the book you rated. Go to "edit review". It should have an option that says "Date read" :)

message 343: by KellyJo (new)

I listen to audio books during my commute to and from work. I also have days were I can listen and work at the same time. This really helps to bump my number up.

Also only have 1 child at home and my husband does not work so by the time I get home there is not a lot of rushing to get homework, dinner, etc done because 90% of the time he has it taken care of. So while hubby and son are watching tv, I read. This gives me at least 3 hours to read before bed every night. Usually up til 11 or so. I also read books to my son so they tend to be shorter (50 pages or so) and some of the ones I read are 150 pages or less, this means I can read more than one in a day. I can definitely see how it might be a stretch for some due to real life. I can remember times when I was lucky to get 10 books read a year. Good Luck to everyone with their challenges.

I start new books before finishing the earlier one, and usually the result is that I finish neither of them. Apparently all of us have different style that suits us.
