Join the 2013 Reading Challenge

Ring in the new year: The century is officially a teenager! What will you do with your 2013? January is that magical time of goal-making. Will you learn a new language or commit to the gym twice a week? More importantly, how many books will you read? Make a reading resolution with the 2013 Reading Challenge, and Goodreads will help you hit your target.
Simply set a goal, any goal—it can be as low or high as you want—and Goodreads will track your progress. We'll let you know when you're falling behind and when you're out ahead! Be as aggressive or conservative as you like. The average goal set in 2012 was 58 books for the year (approximately a book per week), but we see a wide range of targets.
And if you need to pad your to-read list, there are a plethora of ways to find books on Goodreads! You can try out your personalized recommendations, which only need 20 rated books before you can recieve reading suggestions based on your personal taste. Or, browse the winners and nominees of the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards. And don't forget to peruse the thousands of lists on Listopia and enter giveaways to win brand-new books! We also recommend that you browse for groups reading your to-read books or groups near you to find a great place for discussion.

Now in its third year, our reading challenge is such an inspiring indicator of reading enthusiasm. In 2011, 154,169 participants pledged to read more than 10 million books. In 2012, 303,232 participants pledged to read 17.8 million books. And we expect 2013 to blow past these numbers!
There's something about the sound of "2013" that truly feels like the future. And since the apocalypse didn't come on 12/21/2012, let's embrace the new year and all it has to offer. How many books will you pledge?

Only targeting 30 because I know I'll be busy this year.
Last year I was pessimistic and had to change it several times, eventually ending up at 52 (but reading 61). So this year I'm just going for 52 right away. One book a week. Unless reading articles for class and such it should be doable.
im already soooo excited jst cant wait to finish my target... n its good to knw dat der r lot of other in it too ....
Im going to go for around 25 to 30 books this year. Hoping i don't get too distracted like last year! Bring on 2013 baby!
Have fun everybody!
With all that happened in 2012 it was a real challenge for me to finish all 50 books (but I did - with 2 over, to make it 1 a week for 2012!) If it wasn't for the Goodreads challenge I wouldn't have read anything it was such a crazy year, so Hooray for the GR Reading Challenge! :)This year I set my challenge at 36 as I want to concentrate more on non fiction and the classics, so will be reading longer books more slowly.
Anyone know how I get the pretty 2012 completed badge (with the red banner across the corner)? It's not showing up on my blog widget.
Thanks!

I may be unique here. I'm a book addict (if you can believe such a thing is possible) and trying to REDUCE my reading. I've topped 200 four years in a row, and am trying to limit to 75 books this year.
I love this idea! Enjoyed it so much last year, proud that I passed my goal of 36 by actually reading 39. It came right down to the wire as I finished The Help last night at about 8:00. :0). So I set my goal at 40 for this year. My daughter wants to set a goal too! Good luck to all! Now I m off to start the new year right by diving into the 10th Andy Carpenter by David Rosenfelt!
I started 2012 out with 50 and it became clear that was too low pretty quickly so I upped it to 75. Made it with a day to spare! Going for at least 85 this year!
Every year i cherish the day I was introduced to this website! It's incredible!Everybody ENJOY your books this year!

I love this site and also cherish the day I stumbled across it.
I've just completed a book, rated and added to my 'read' shelf but it was not counted, last year I read something like 500 books but only one was counted..... why ? ^^'

I know!

It's at the bottom of the page where you enter your review. If you didn't, they don't count towards it.
I bought my first Nook in 2010 and I've done more reading since I bought an ereader than I've ever done. I read 106 books last year and I'm challenging myself to the same or more! Happy New Year everyone! Happy New BOOK!
I read 57 books in 2012! My goal is just to increase that number by 1. I hope to read more but 58 is my goal!
I can't decide what to do with this. I read 100 books in 2012, but found myself choosing shorter books than I really like sometimes for the sake of staying of pace. I would also like to reread several books, and I wish there was a way to mark books as "rereading" so that they would apply to the goal.

This will be my first time participating in the reading challenge. I used to be able to burn through a book a week, however life seems to have gotten so hectic. I don't read as often as I'd like, so I am hopeful this challenge will be just what is needed to get me back into reading more. My goal is 26 books for 2013.

I did 30 last year (I go through surges and lulls) and got to 31, so I'm not going to push myself too hard! My goal is 40
55 will be my target this year. Started out slow the past year because of school, hopefully this year it ges better as I have less classes
I set 24 as my goal last year, and actually read 28. I will shoot for 36 this year. I am so glad for the challenge.
I feel so good about not only meeting, but exceeding my reading goal in 2012! I even started doing some real reviews. I'm aiming even higher in 2013: 75 books!
I started in the summer and read 37 books in 2012. And that happened to be my age LOL. So let's do twice my age this year... 76 :)
This is cool. Already set my goal. I'm new to Goodreads and I'm looking forward to the reading challenge.
Last year my goal was 50 books and I read 52. So this year I will increase it to 60. Several of the books I read were around 800 pages so I thought I did very well last year. Happy 2013 to everyone!
Happy New Yeaaaaaaaar!!I just set my goal to 195, since I usually read a TON in a year anyways.
Good luck to you all!
