Join the 2013 Reading Challenge

Ring in the new year: The century is officially a teenager! What will you do with your 2013? January is that magical time of goal-making. Will you learn a new language or commit to the gym twice a week? More importantly, how many books will you read? Make a reading resolution with the 2013 Reading Challenge, and Goodreads will help you hit your target.
Simply set a goal, any goal—it can be as low or high as you want—and Goodreads will track your progress. We'll let you know when you're falling behind and when you're out ahead! Be as aggressive or conservative as you like. The average goal set in 2012 was 58 books for the year (approximately a book per week), but we see a wide range of targets.
And if you need to pad your to-read list, there are a plethora of ways to find books on Goodreads! You can try out your personalized recommendations, which only need 20 rated books before you can recieve reading suggestions based on your personal taste. Or, browse the winners and nominees of the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards. And don't forget to peruse the thousands of lists on Listopia and enter giveaways to win brand-new books! We also recommend that you browse for groups reading your to-read books or groups near you to find a great place for discussion.

Now in its third year, our reading challenge is such an inspiring indicator of reading enthusiasm. In 2011, 154,169 participants pledged to read more than 10 million books. In 2012, 303,232 participants pledged to read 17.8 million books. And we expect 2013 to blow past these numbers!
There's something about the sound of "2013" that truly feels like the future. And since the apocalypse didn't come on 12/21/2012, let's embrace the new year and all it has to offer. How many books will you pledge?

I am going to read 60 books in 2013 -- five a month. If I accomplish more than 60, that will be even better.
I'm going with a 100 this year, between July and December I accomplished my goal of 50 so this should be interesting!!!
Did 50 last year am trying for 75 this year. Already half way through my first book :-). Love this challenge!
Love this challenge. It helped me get back into reading. This year my goal is 35. If I can reach that (and I will), I will be more ambitious next year (a minimum of 50 books!).
I went 28 past my goal of 100 last year, so I'll try for 150 this time. Audiobooks go well with commutes and the gym.
Love this challange. I have done it every year, and you cannot imagine the satisfaction I get when I see it through each time!
Does it count if we're editing a book we wrote? And then edit it again. And again. And again. LOL. Because if so my number would be SIGNIFICANTLY higher.
Since my 2012 goal was a bit over ambitious I've decided to K.I.S.S with 52 books (1 book a week) and 15,500 pages (which I'm tracking via TickerFactory).
Wow, reading everyone's goals, I feel a bit of a slacker my goal is only 10 for this year. Haha, but best of reading to everyone.
Gonna try for 50 again this year. I was reading 49 of 50 on new years eve so this is definitely within reach!
My goal is to read 100 books this yea, this is my first year setting a reading goal for myself. I have already started with A Thousand Splendid Suns
I'm making out a list to stay on track. That way I wont have to waste time trying to decide which books to read.
Thanks for having this yearly challenge, Goodreads! It brings back memories of the "Book It" school program. Now I need to figure out how to get some free pizza for reading again... :)
For 2012, my goal was 100 books. I just realized today I finished my 100th book last week, but I waited too long to post to Goodreads. I wanted a 2012 "Completed" banner so bad :(My goal is 100 again, with the additional goal of actually POSTING it so I get the credit. Urgh.
Just joined, am pledging 150 books, what I probably normally read anyway. Last year, I read books I chose; this year the challenge will be reading choices made by Goodreads Group Reads books. Very challenging!
My goal will be 150 too. It is a lot, I know, but I am not a tv watching girl, so that gives me a loooooot of extra hours. And if I don't reach it,no harm done, so be it. Happy New Year to all of you. may all your dreams come true.
