Join the 2013 Reading Challenge

Ring in the new year: The century is officially a teenager! What will you do with your 2013? January is that magical time of goal-making. Will you learn a new language or commit to the gym twice a week? More importantly, how many books will you read? Make a reading resolution with the 2013 Reading Challenge, and Goodreads will help you hit your target.
Simply set a goal, any goal—it can be as low or high as you want—and Goodreads will track your progress. We'll let you know when you're falling behind and when you're out ahead! Be as aggressive or conservative as you like. The average goal set in 2012 was 58 books for the year (approximately a book per week), but we see a wide range of targets.
And if you need to pad your to-read list, there are a plethora of ways to find books on Goodreads! You can try out your personalized recommendations, which only need 20 rated books before you can recieve reading suggestions based on your personal taste. Or, browse the winners and nominees of the 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards. And don't forget to peruse the thousands of lists on Listopia and enter giveaways to win brand-new books! We also recommend that you browse for groups reading your to-read books or groups near you to find a great place for discussion.

Now in its third year, our reading challenge is such an inspiring indicator of reading enthusiasm. In 2011, 154,169 participants pledged to read more than 10 million books. In 2012, 303,232 participants pledged to read 17.8 million books. And we expect 2013 to blow past these numbers!
There's something about the sound of "2013" that truly feels like the future. And since the apocalypse didn't come on 12/21/2012, let's embrace the new year and all it has to offer. How many books will you pledge?

I'd love to see a feature for setting a page count vs a book count. Five hundred pages seems to be the normal "short book" for me.
EXACTLY!!!! This 300 page novels just fly by too quickly..I want Game Of Thrones pages!!! Renee wrote: "I'd love to see a feature for setting a page count vs a book count. Five hundred pages seems to be the normal "short book" for me."

Melody wrote: "Setting mine at, 360. The way I read. Finished 4 books so far. 356 to go!" Last year I read 77 and I figured 360 is a bit high so I'm just gonna try and beat 77. Actually I think I got 77 since I've joined, but I haven't been on Goodreads loads, soooooo...........
Going to set it at 52 (as every year so far!) Last year I didn't make it-I did my best though, and I will do so again this year!
2012 challenge was (50 books) and I read 59 :) I'm so happy but I wish to can reach my target for this year which is (100 books) :)
It would be even better if the reading challenge bit was included in the app, you can only see it from the website which makes the app pretty pointless to me...
Jessica, the light being emitted from the book in your 2013 graphic makes it seem like the book is supposed to be the Holy Bible.I suggest a return to the book graphic of 2011, which is less cheesy looking.
Karen wrote: "read 344 out of a target of 350. This year I'm aiming slightly lower. I'm setting myself two targets, 300 books and 12 classics."I am really impressed and admire your tenacity. What type of books do you like to read? What would be your top 5 books from last year? I may try to add those to my reading list.
This will be my first challenge through Goodreads, heard it was a lot of fun. My target number will be 24.

Do you speed read, thats a lot of books in one year.
This is the first time my New Year's Resolution will be FUN!!!! I'm setting my challenge at 100. The hardest part will be to log them. ;D
Since i am about 500 pages into Fall of Giants by Ken Follett - this 'goal' kinda makes me cringe! ha! Can i make it??!! But once i'm out of the Russian Revolution, i'm sure not ALL of my books will be door-stoppers! So BRING IT! Besides, i have so many on my 'to read' list... that's what keeps me inspired! Happy 2013 Everyone! Let's see where we travel with our imaginations and hearts through the blessings of those that have written for us and left such a wonderful legacy!
done with the 20 book challenge for 2012 going for 30 for 2013 =)
anw it's not about reading lots of books .. it's about understanding and making use of this reading
setting a challenge is good to keep an eye on ur progress and to stop being lazy =)
Last year wasn't so great for me, but I'm hoping this year will go so much better. 25 books is a good enough goal to start with, and then I might add more after I reach that first goal.
This is a fantastic way of tracking. I love this challenge.Congratulations to all who has been able to achieve their target in 2012.
Best of luck to all of your readers this year. I have somehow managed to get past my target of 50 in both 2011 and 2012. This year I will also target around 50.
My goal is 70 books. Although I failed in my target last year, I'm optimistic about 2013. I like reading more than before.
400? wow... and I thought I read a lot... that is more than 1 book a day.. no, I can't do that, have to work bit too, to be able to buy all these lovely books. Happy reading!

I think it's not so much the number of books I read as much as finding more books to enjoy, learning more things, et cetera - but the numbers kind of help keep me on task, since my to-read list is massive. C:
