Good idea Valerie. Doesn't seem like he is very 'solutionary' just likes to complain. I believe I will follow your lead.

Judy Hooked on Ian Rankin!

message 265: by Celeste (new)

Celeste Clark I just read The Guest House by Sarah Blake. I hated the first 100 pages, but I stuck with it. I absolutely loved it. When I finished it, I had to talk about it, so I told my husband the whole story and sent it to my best friend. I had a hard time starting my new book, Ask Again, Yes. I am now 2/3 of the way through it. Loving it.

message 268: by Rechalena (last edited Jul 03, 2019 09:00PM) (new)

Rechalena Summer.. we need suspense!!!
I recommend "Norina Luciano" an English novel by Noha Alaa El-Din.. I love it so much and I still re-read it from time to time..

It revolves round Norina and how she tried to get her glamour back, but it was not all, it was actually a matter of survival.
She made a detour, she thought she would return stronger, but things didn't go as she wished.

It has many surprises along its timeline.. It also has deep feelings, some philosophical lines, witty dialogues, and touching monologues.. And the chapters have interesting flow with a capturing rhythm and it's to the point.
Such a charming piece of literature!

P.s.: It's a tragedy with sweet sparks of humor..
It's just not easy to judge Norina's character, not that easy!

I wonder if anyone here has read it before..

message 269: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Cronin One easy way to combine summer in the states and winter in Australia is to celebrate "Christmas in July" with a good holiday romance! Or any Christmas story, Mr. Dickens!

Forgetfulone Sarah Jessica Parker? Really? Her picture right there as someone we would look to to recommend books? The same Sarah Jessica Parker who is guilty of buying her child's way into college? Shame on you!

Jade Violet Forgetfulone wrote: "Sarah Jessica Parker? Really? Her picture right there as someone we would look to to recommend books? The same Sarah Jessica Parker who is guilty of buying her child's way into college? Shame on you!"

Wait a second, I thought that was Felicity Huffman (William H. Macy's wife) and Lori Loughlin. Those were the two actresses publicized. I don't think her oldest is ready for college yet.

Robyn Goodreads, I'm curious about the breakdown of where your users are from. You must have that information because it's in our profiles. It's not a major issue but if you're going to run a website that's used all around the world, please don't exclude all your users in the southern hemisphere.

Simon Truckle Great review of Love's Labours

"In my view, this book is one of the funniest summer holiday reads that you will come across. I mean, who else would describe unused windsurf boards which never go in the water as Chardonnay, Stephen Fry, Gobi, and Rot….because they are all very, very dry."

message 282: by Shene (new)

Shene I wish there was more diversity to their reading. Classics from India never ever merit a mention.

message 283: by Matee (new)

Matee I agree with your comment but for me it is MC books. I have even asked questions and no one answers. I just LOVE being ignored when this is the place that you are asked to go to to ask for suggestions on certain types of books. Guess MC books are not "classy" or "politically correct" enough for this group of folks. No problem though...I'll find my own group of people who like the same books I do and go from there!! Sad isn't when you feel like you are being classed as to low to even answer. Wonder if I get a comment after posting this??? Probably from someone telling me how awful I am and how wrong I am!

We all have our own interests. I would not have responded to you as I have no idea what MC books are. It is not a judgment, just different levels of interests which in my view doesn’t make anyone better or worse, just different.

message 285: by Matee (new)

Matee Cheryl,
MC books are motorcycle club books and I agree about the different levels of interests. I just find it unusual and a little sad that with all the people that comment on this site that I never get anything. I did find a group that enjoys the same books that I am into right now so I have finally gotten some great suggestions and have given suggestions so I will stay with them.

I’m happy that you found what you were looking for in a group. We all want to be able to share. Hope it continues to provide enjoyment.

Matee,
have you checked in the groups section there are all kinds of groups to join. I'm in 6. From western romance, vampires and paranormal, I'm in one for freebies from different places. one is for Harlequin romance, Romanced challenged one is Kiss and Tell.
They all have challenges and you can talk to people get to know them in Buddy Reads. The are fun and challenging. I read quite a few Motorcycle Clubs books and they fit into a lot of my group challenges. Just an idea for you to check out
Vicki
