Shadow Reader #3, Real Life Stuff, and Jane Austen

The third Shadow Reader novel is with my editor! It’s been with her for a couple of weeks, so I’ve taken a bit of a break. I pretty much abandoned my real life to finish that sucker up, so I’ve been spending time with my boys and husband and trying to get my household under control. I’m ready to get back into the writing routine, though!

I downloaded the LoseIt! app and have logged every morsel I’ve eaten for the last two weeks. What have I discovered? Holy guacomole, I eat way too much! I hav...

Deleted Scene from Book Three

I know, I know. Book three doesn’t even have a title and I already have a deleted scene. I just wrote this this morning and suddenly decided that, even though I like it, it probably doesn’t work. But I do kind of like it, and since it’s not really spoilery, I thought I’d post it here.

I guess there’s a chance it could still end up in the book, but it feels more like a darling that needs to be deleted. Oh, and first draft warning.

“Okay.” Aren reaches a hand down into the muck we’re crouched in...

Les Mis, the movie. Yay or nay?

I don’t know whether I should be excited about Les Miserables, the movie, or not. I love the musical so, so much. I think I saw it at least three times in London – and I would have seen it more if I could have convinced the husband to go again. He likes it, too, but unlike me, he can’t listen to the same songs over and over and over again.

I can, and the Les Mis soundtrack is fabulous, and the story is so freaking moving. I mean, you have freedom fighters trying to overthrow the authorities. P...

Book Rec: DRAGONFLY by Erica Hayes

I don’t often blog about book recommendations – heck, I barely blog at all these days – but I’m so freaking excited about Dragonflyby Erica Hayes. It is exactly what I want in my science fiction romance reads. I’m extremely picky when it comes to this genre. I’ve read so many SFR’s that start well but then they just totally lose me, and even the ones that I like are sometimes missing that X factor – the unidentifiable thing that makes me want to run around shoving copies of the book into ever...

Just a quick note to say…

Hey guys,

Unfortunately, the signing I had scheduled with Darynda Jonesfor this Saturday in Houston at Murder by the Book has had to be cancelled. It’s actually being rescheduled to next Friday, November 3oth, but I won’t be able to make the drive there then. You’ll still be able to see Darynda Jones, though, and I encourage you to do so! Her books are great, funny, and fun reads.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

My First Foreign Cover!

This is turning out to be an awesome news week. Yesterday, we had the PM announcement of book three’s sale and the sale of the German rights, and today, I have the French cover for THE SHADOW READER:

It’s friggin’ gorgeous. I love the way McKenzie looks, and the backdrog is awesome. I’m going to assume McKenzie is not wearing only a bra. It’s some kind of tank top, and she’s pulling on a cloak. :-)

THE SHADOW READER released in January in France with THE SHATTERED DARK coming out in May. Aren’t t...

It’s Official: There Will Be a Book Three

This announcement showed up in Publishers Marketplace yesterday.

Sci-Fi/Fantasy Fiction:

Sandy Williams’s third installment in the SHADOW READER series, in which a woman must choose her fate once and for all as the war in the Realm rages on, to Ace, with Jesse Feldman editing, by Joanna Volpe at New Leaf Literary & Media.

So, it’s official! Good thing, too, because I would have hated for McKenzie’s story to end the way it did in book two. Plus, I’ve been working on this book for the past six mon...

The Shattered Dark is in stores today!

[ETA: The virtual launch that was scheduled tonight has been cancelled due to Sandy. Sandy, the hurricane, not Sandy me. I'm safe and dry in Texas. We'll reschedule soon!]

[ETA again: The Kindle version of THE SHATTERED DARK isn't available until next week for some reason. I'm working on getting this fixed, but NY isn't quite up and running yet, so I'm not sure when it will get changed to the correct date. Very sorry for the inconvenience! It is available on the Nook and in bookstores!]

It’s re...

Book Stuff and Life Stuff

Book stuff: Two stops on The Shattered Dark Blog Tour are up. They’re both interviews, one with Aren and the other with Aren and McKenzie. You can find the active links on my blog tour post and see other, upcoming stops on the tour and discover more ways to enter to wina copy of THE SHATTERED DARK.

And I’ve received a couple of reviews that make me so happy! I feel weird about retweeting or posting reviews, though. Like I’m singing my own applause. Do you guys like it when an author posts or t...

Want to win a copy of THE SHATTERED DARK?

The Shattered Dark Blog Tour begins tomorrow! It runs for two weeks, and at each stop, my publisher will be giving away a copy of THE SHATTERED DARK! This is the first, official blog tour I’ve done – I was way too frazzled last year to attempt it – and I’m happy with how all the interviews and guest posts have turned out. I hope you enjoy them!

I’ll update this post with direct links when the guest posts go live, but here are the blogs I’ll be visiting.

October 23rd at Book Lovers Inc: An inter...
