It’s my birthday! Wanna give me a present?

Smiley balls going to a party

Yep. That’s right folks. I was born today a not-so-fewyears ago.

Right now, I’m home with a sick boy, but tonight, my parents will be watching the twins (I really think sick boy isn’t so sick anymore), and the husband and I are going to get our geek on – playing board games! We’re actually going OUT to do this. Dallas has a very active gaming community (home of the annualBoard Game Geek Convention), and there’s a place relatively close by that has weekend gaming marathons, and a weekly Thursda...

Killing Chapters and Weekly Goals

I haven’t worked on my sci-fi book today. I’m avoiding it. I’m avoiding it because I think I need to delete two chapters.

On the surface, that doesn’t sound too bad, but I’ve already deleted and rewritten this section of the book a dozen times, and one of those chapters I think I need to delete has a “darling” in it.

Yall have all heard that old phrase before, right? That authors need to “kill their darlings?” I haven’t had to kill many darlings before. In The Shadow Reader books, I had to add...

Friday Five

One.

So tired. One of the toddlers was up half the night vomiting. Poor guy. He’s perfectly fine this morning, but we kept him home because… well, he was up half the night. He’s going on five hours of sleep and I’m sure he would have been cranky at school. Sidenote: Toddler’s daddy is so awesome. Toddler threw up on him three times and he didn’t complain, and he rocked him forever in the chair and has stayed home this morning to give me a chance to sleep. Too bad my darn mind isn’t cooperating...

Goals of this Week – if potty practice doesn’t interfere

Aside from the Matter of the Mystery Poop*, potty practice is going pretty well. We’ve had a few accidents, especially if we dare put pants on them, but all in all, not as bad as I feared yet.

But the kids are home with me today. SAD FACE! I just couldn’t send them to school, though. They so weren’t ready for going out in public. They’re not making it more than a half hour without either peeing in the potty or having an accident, and I didn’t want to backtrack by putting them in diapers, so… I...

Pray for me.

The husband and I will be attempting potty practice this week.

Potty practice. We can’t call it potty training. If we do, Toddler B will think we’re going ona train ride. There will be tantrums if we tell him he is wrong.

That’s my big, stinky plan for this weekend. I’m already looking forward to Monday. I need to have a more productive week. This one was okay. I had a ton of non-writing work stuff to do – releasetime will do that to you -but I did get some words written. I kind of got distract...

A Business-y Post

(If you’re not interested in the business side of publishing, you might want to skip this post. You might want to skip it anyway because I’m such a newbie at publishing, and there are so many more experienced, more business-savvy authors out there than I am. )

ETA: I just started following Hugh Howey’s blog last week. Why did I wait so long? Because I’m an idiot. This guy is smart, and I might have fallen a little in love with him with his post today on if he was in charge of a publishing hous...

Where will I be?

I’m feeling kind of productive today. I spent the morning writing with a friend at Panera Bread. Got about 800 words written, which isn’t bad for me. We’re going to make this Panera thing a weekly ritual. Yay! Getting out of the house and the vibes from another author who’s hard at work on her own book is good for me. I don’t get distracted by laundry, menu planning, cleaning, and organizing.

CMCSmallVert150x232I finally booked my flight for Coastal Magic Con today.

(Sidenote: I hate American Airlines. When they...

Writing “Not Right” and a Happy Release Day to Jenn Bennett

Remember how I was all determined to get a lot of writing done after my post yesterday? Yeah. Not so much. I had a gazillion other little errands to do that I couldn’t put off. I wrote for a total ofthirty minutes. Thirty. Minutes. Ugh.

And those thirty minutes were frustrating. I know exactly how I want my current project to read, but the words I’m choosing aren’t the right words. They’re not the right rhythm. They’re not the right pace. They’re not creating the right amount of tension.

They’r...

Fantastic Release Week + Giveaways

Happy Monday, everyone! Are Mondays anyone else’s favorite day of the week? I love them. It means my twins are back in daycare and I get to work. I freaking love my job, and since I haven’t written anything since Thanksgiving (I am so not kidding here), I’m dying to get back to my current story. I miss my characters!

(Curious about my current project? The first five pages are posted at The Darkest Reader. And there’s a giveaway over there, too. Check it out.)

But I want to take a second to say...

5 Days Until The Sharpest Blade!

Early reviews for The Sharpest Blade have been fantastic. I love this book so much, and I’m so excited you all will be able to read it soon.

To celebrate the release, my publisher has lowered the price on The Shadow Reader ebook to $1.99 for a limited time. If you know someone who might enjoy McKenzie’s story, you can let them know that now is the best and most affordable time to begin the series. :-)

Lots of giveaways are going on right now!

You can win a signed copy of The Sharpest Blade on my F...
