First person, second person, third person

I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t much care for first person.  I don’t like it because I like seeing the POV from other characters.

What about you?  Like first person? Hate it?  Depends on how it’s done?

And hey…here’s a good place for a poll…

I’m so glad I’m not a historical romance heroine

I only read historicals if I’m in the mood for them.  But I’ve read enough to remember that things like body odor and bad breath were generally reserved for the bad guys.  The heroine smelled sweet, the hero smelled sexy and all is good.

Over at the smart bitch blog, Kris Kennedy has put together some information that sheds some light on the facts of historical life.  Things like…

Too bad.  In a romance, the hero and heroine usually get a lot of alone time.  Their bedchamber is a place of privacy.

Perfect people

I got a headsup from Michelle over the Barnes & Noble boards that she’d blogged about Devon from FRAGILE.

She was discussing the subject of addicts and addictions in romance.  For those that don’t know, the heroine in FRAGILE is a recovering addict-she was abused as a child and ended up hooked on drugs at 13.  Devon certainly had baggage to deal with.  She lives with the addiction, she lives with the memories of her childhood.

Looking back, I see it’s a pretty weighty topic.

But the post at BN.com

Color me speechless

Just checked out the Brenda Novak auction and saw that my Hunters book ended up going for $101.00.  Wow.  Thanks to everybody who bid!  The winner will receive a signed ARC of Hunters’ Need sometime in late summer or early fall, whenever I get the ARCs in.

I’m not sure what the final total for the auction as a whole was, but when I hear, if I remember, I’ll post the details here.  The auction benefits juvenile diabetes, definitely a very worthy cause.

When I wrote this post a few days ago, I didn’

Like them or not?

Just wondering what you think about things like wallpaper for your PC, screensavers, etc…do you like them?  And because I haven’t had any reason to use the polls here, I’m going to use a poll… (I’m easily amused)

Facebook

I never should have done it…gotten involved in facebook because oh, man, the time I waste there.  However, it does have some promo uses.  One of them would be my author page, which I can use to send out updates to readers and stuff.  I’ll be using it more in the future, and I’ll be running contests thru there as well.  If you’d like to enter, you just need to have a facebook account and then ‘fan’ me. (FYI, I really hate that term…’fan’…I’d much rather it be a ‘join’ option but nobody asked me…)

I’ll second that…

Lynn Viehl/PBW always has these quotes up… a ‘thought for the month’ that is generally related to writing.  This month, it’s from Anne Stuart:

Part of me longs for the good old days, when I knew no other writers, when I typed out my story on a manual typewriter, three drafts worth, and sent it off blind to an agent in New York and crossed my fingers. When I didn’t know the rules, when all that mattered was the story.

You know, I cannot say enough just how very much I long for this.  Back before I

Samhain Publishing IS open to submissions…

Just an FYI, if you’re a writer looking to submit to Samhain, they ARE open to submissions.  There was an error in a recent issue of the RWR (RWA’s publication) that stated Samhain was closed to subs.

Nope…they are open.

Samhain is open to submissions.

In the most recent issue of the RWA’s Pro newsletter (Prospects) it was reported that Samhain is closed to submissions. We’re unsure where the erroneous information came from, but we are not closed to submissions and have no plans to be. We continue
