Going to RWA?
Samhain's having an informal get-together. From Angela James' site:
It's all about the party! Samhain Publishing is thrilled to announce our plans to host an informal meet & greet at the RWA National Conference in Washington D.C. Attendees from all walks of the industry are invited to join us to mingle with favorite Samhain authors, chat with our editors, learn more about digital publishing and opportunities at Samhain, or just to drink really great wine.

Survey says…
Okay, the survey was a pain. Times 10. To the nth degree. If I realized how big it would get, I either wouldn't have done it, or I would have found a better way. Being unprepared, I used survey monkey's free service, which limited my responses to 100. After I reached the 100, I set up another. By about the third survey, I figured this wasn't going to work and I upgraded to the paid service, which was better, except I couldn't group the responses together automatically, which meant I had to

Why epublishing works for me
There's a lot of discussion going on about epublishing and RWA right now. A lot. I've waded into more than one and I figure I ought to explain why epublishing works so well for me.
I write for four pubs, two print, two epubs. The books I write for my print pubs are usually scheduled a good year or more after I complete or sign a contract. I've got three under contract with Ballantine that likely won't be out until 2011 or so. Yes, I received an advance, but advances don't last forever-at lea

As a diehard Buffy fanatic…I love this remix.
Now granted, I must say, I haven't seen Twilight. Probably will at some point, but Buffy rocks. Love this video.
Thanks to SB blog for posting it!

US V. THEM
This 'us' v. 'them' mentality that comes up every time there's an issue about RWA and epubbed?
I'm tired of it.
It shouldn't be an us v. them. I ranted over at Karen's about it, but I'm reposting my rant/comment here as a blog post. I'm tired of this mess. There doesn't need to be a divide, there shouldn't be a divide, and those who harp and persisnt in the US v THEM mindset, whether they claim they are for change or not, that mindset damages our cause. So over at Karen's, I commented this:

The Redeeming… Twitter contest! For reviewers…
Just a little over a week until The Redeeming releases from Samhain. Just a reminder, this book has been published before thru Triskelion, but I did some revisions and added some to the story. It's definitely a smoother read this time, I think. Details on the contest below…
The blurb:
Bred for destruction but longing for redemption, this second chance is all they have.
Faced with the choice of torment or redemption, Jonah accepts the bargain laid out by his guardian angel as he lies dying in the

Woman find 1.9 million for pirating music.
At some point, publishers just might decide to take the path the music industry took. One woman has been fined $1.9 million for uploading copyrighted music onto a filesharing site.
Could be bad news for pirates, because this verdict probably set a precedent. Yahoo’s article quoted:
“They now have a verdict they can use in other cases around America,” Port said of the recording industry. “The prices that they will charge for settling is going to go up.”
I can’t remember where I read it, (read seve

For aspiring authors…
I’m still gone…back soon!
Angela James, editor over at Samhain, had an interesting post up at her blog. One of the comments she made:
the fact is, it’s up to the author to make sure the book doesn’t need a second chance because it’s entirely likely it won’t get one.
There were some other good points made, but this one just caught my eye and I wanted to share.

Looking for something to read?
FYI-I’m out of town for a few days, but just so your stop here isn’t in vain…
Did some reading recently-had two keepers in a row. You gotta love that.
One was Salt & Silver by Anna Katherine-I think she’s a new author. Great book-just a heads up, this is first person, which I don’t always like, but her voice is fantastic. The blurb:
One night six years ago, Allie and her friends got drunk and chanted a fake spell they made up… and accidentally opened a portal to Hell. Now it resides in the bas
