Do I really need a website?

I know this is a topic that's been discussed before, by a number of different people.

I'm doing it again, because I was procrastinating and playing online, ended up on Ann Aguirre's website, reading this post.  She's discussing author websites.  Since I needed something to blog about, I figure I might as well do this, too. ;-)

So do authors really need a website?

In my opinion, yes. Here is why: readers like them.

Readers are always looking for what's coming next.  We finish a book, we hit the...

About the Book Drive for the Louisville Free Public Library

There are some awesome people in blogland and in the publishing industry.  Plain and simple.

This is what I've got in my garage…

books

The Book Drive

I don't know if the picture shows very well just how many books came in.  We're probably looking at between 300-500 books.  I haven't had the chance to count them recently but trust me, there's a heck of a lot of books there.

I received donations
Berkley
Ellora's Cave
Samhain

Authors who donated include:

I am currently reading and loving this

Trick of the Light

Trick of the Light

This author is fast becoming one of my favorites.

I'm about halfway done, and the only thing I want to know is when the next one comes out.  And if we get more of Solomon.

If you like urban fantasy, you should give these books a try.

Blurb:

When Trixa learns of a powerful artifact known as the Light of Life, she knows she's hit the jackpot. Both sides—angel and demon—would give anything for it. But first she has to find it. And as Heaven and Hell ready for an apocalyptic...

Dragon adventures

I just finished up edits on Broken.  And… drumroll please… I did it using Dragon for the most part.

(Dragon equals Dragon NaturallySpeaking-voice to text software).  The good news is that Dragon works pretty well for edits and blog posts, as well as basic Web surfing.

The bad news?  I'm having a harder time talking story than writing story.  I was worried about this to begin with and hopefully I will adjust well enough.  It's going to take some time, I guess.  I just hope...

:( Wildlife Waystation

Grabbed this from Karen's blog…if you can help, I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

Many of you have been following the progress of the California fires. We have friends or relatives in the area and are naturally concerned about their wellbeing.

I confess that my focus on many natural disasters is quite narrow. The people I know are pretty much it.

One of these people, T.T.Thomas, was very close to the fires over the weekend (scroll down to see how close). Now she and her loved ones and her property see

The cost of piracy to readers

Piracy comes with costs to readers.  Whether you pirate or not.  Those who don't pirate may not realize the costs. The costs may include higher book costs which sucks because books aren't cheap anyway. Who wants to pay higher than we have to?  But when publishers lose money, they are going to try to make it elsewhere.  That's how business works.

There are even costs to those who do pirate.  So are you curious about those costs? In a word…BOOKS.

Quite a few of us take time out to deal with it on a

Carpal tunnel? No…. now it's cubital tunnel

Writing can wreak havoc on your body.  Seriously.  And FYI…this havoc is part of the reason I get ticked off when people blithely steal and share my work.  The more I write, the more I damage my hands, and yet still… some people think it's okay to just abuse a writer's hard work.  But I'm getting off on a tangent here.  I wanted to whine about my hands for a few minutes, not pirates.

I'm 33 years old and I've already had carpal tunnel releases on both sides.  Now some of this we can attribute to
