Planting most of the rest of the garden today--if not the entire rest of the garden, depending. Right now, all that's left are the sweet potatoes and mulching everything, so I've gotten a lot done so far. I'm taking a break for lunch at the moment--Kale and turnip tops steamed with a chopped up garlic scape and rice. I might decide to make it into fried rice; we'll see how hungry I am after it's finished.

I spent more money than I intended at Burlington today, even though it wasn't that great of a show this month. It rained--twice, and once a downpour--and that kept the crowds away. However, I managed to come home with a Lefse rolling pin (unused, with recipes attached!), a woodburned and decorated wooden box, and Christmas beads. Christmas beads have nothing to do with the holiday; they are a type of African Trade Bead. I used to buy them when we went down to Florida, but since we don't go th...

I have more pictures, but they're going to have to wait until tomorrow evening. I'm too tired tonight.

So yesterday, we started on the roof.

We tore off two roofs and one sopping wet layer of plywood that was basically mulch (it squished! Yuck!) Probably liberated my kitchen/bathroom roof of at least 500lbs., if not more.

the portion of the wood we needed to replace due to rot and an ant's nest
mid clean-up. that brown stuff is the wet plywood.

There are actually three more roofs and the original wood underneath, but they're in good enough condition to leave in place. The roof has never been total...

Oliver.
Today, I mowed my grass again; well, I didn't get to the backyard, but I did the entire front yard. It had been a day over two weeks. The pulled muscle in my lower back thankfully did not complain too loudly; it is feeling a lot better, but I certainly know when I've overdone it. And I'm going to do my best to make sure I don't pull it again, since that's what usually happens.

For the second time in a week, Gracie darted outside; I refuse to chase after her, so outside she will stay. Wh...

So Sunday at 11:24am, I pulled out my back. That pretty much sums up the rest of the week. I was barely home, and when I was home, I sure didn't want to sit in front of a computer even longer than I had already all day at work.

In fact, it's getting more and more difficult to even bother to turn on the computer after work. I just don't want to sit in front of another screen. I'm in front of two all day at work (I have dual monitors) and I'd rather spend my time away from work not stuck in fron...

So the one rather important thing I didn't get to this week was the laundry room and fixing my dryer. Which I'm okay with for the moment, really, because I'm not truly missing the dryer much at all. I have a decent setup for drying clothes, and most of the time, I can hang towels and big stuff out on the line. However, it's still on my "inside" list, and I intend to keep working on those lists until they're finished. (And probably adding to them as well.)

I have a dedicated notebook for these...

My last two days of vacation! Boy, this week went fast. But I did get a lot done, even if I didn't cross everything off on my lists of things to do. At least I still have lists, however, and I made a great start. I'll be working around the house and probably around the garden today and tomorrow as well, just to finish a few things up before I have to return to the day job.

I thought about a lot of things while I was off, and I've made a couple of preliminary decisions about what I'm going to a...

So Elsa spent the night last night, and she helped me clean today! We cleaned a lot of the kitchen floor, swept the stairs, took up the Oriental rug in the library, swept that floor (and the rug before we took it up) and then we discovered that my Swiffer had met an untimely death, so I had to go and buy a new one, but that's OK. It looks so... clean in here, even though the table behind me is cluttered with stuff and so is my desk. I am seriously going to make a concerted effort to get this...

I planted the rest of the tomatoes, all of the beans, one more variety of potatoes this morning. It's hotter out there at this time today than yesterday, so I'm calling that a morning of good work and coming inside for lunch and to clean some more. It doesn't look like we'll be doing the roof this weekend because they are calling for rain, but that's OK. We'll get it done.

I also ate the first (and perhaps only) strawberry of the year. It was very tasty!
