Tarot Magic! What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do

We’ve all been in situations where we’re just not sure of the best course of action, feel we have tried everything to no success or even are frozen with indecision as we fear whatever we do is going to be the wrong choice! If you are facing that kind of dilemma right now the good news is that the Tarot is there to help you and get you moving again by opening you up to new ideas, possibilities, solutions and directions you can take.
How does this work? Well, the Tarot contains symbols that activate our unconscious mind and link us to our higher self – but in a way we can understand. Yes, our higher self is constantly sending us messages but we can doubt this or the message just gets drowned out in the chatter and busy-ness of our everyday lives. By using the Tarot we tune out the static and open a clear channel to higher wisdom.
As usual with any kind of spiritual work -turn off your phone and ensure you will not be disturbed during this exercise. Have your Tarot journal to hand as well as you will need it to record your impressions. Shuffle your cards and as you do so think about the area or issue where you are stuck. Say to yourself: ‘I now open myself up to new ways of thinking about and dealing with this issue. The universe is alive with possibilities which is now presents to me’.
When you are ready, draw out just one card at random. If a card drops out while you are shuffling, this is your card. But you only need pick one.
Look at your card. Now describe it out loud to yourself in as much details as possible without naming the card. For example, let’s say you picked The Moon. You would not say ‘The card of The Moon shows . . .’. Instead focus on the images and imagine you are describing the card to someone who cannot see it. ‘A full Moon appears in the night sky and dogs howl at it. Two pillars stand at either side and a lobster emerges from the water. A path leads off into the distance towards some mountains . . ‘ Now you have described the card, describe it as if YOU were in it. ‘I look up at the full Moon shining down on m. I am standing at the water’s edge and looking down a lighted pathway that leads away into the distance. Dogs are howling close by and there are two towers or pillars marking the start of the road . . ‘. Trust that whatever comes to mind is related in some way to your present situation. Start to write all these impressions down – anything including the colours, ideas or thoughts that occur to you. You might for example think ‘That road wants to lead me on a journey’ or even a song lyric or a well-known phrase – don’t censor yourself whatever you do!
When you have finished you should have a list of words, phrases and images you have associated with the card. Now, think about your situation and look at your list and see what words or phrases jump out at you. Make a shorter list of these – they do not have to appear important but they could turn out to be. If you do this exercise first thing in the morning then be on the lookout during the day for signs, people, synchronicities and events that are related to your card. If you are doing the exercise at night, then be on the look out the following day. What is happening is that your subconscious mind is now on the look out for connections to make between these and your problem to nudge you in a more creative direction to solving the issue.
Keep an open mind and trust that it’s all in the creativity and hearing your inner voice more clearly. The Tarot really can open you up to alternatives when it comes to dealing with life’s problems which is why Tarot is so much more than just a predictive tool!

Quantum Creating: Dear future self

One of my most powerful techniques for Quantum Creating is writing a letter to your future self in which you describe the life you are living in say, a year’s time. What goals have you achieved during that time? How and where will you be living and with whom? What job will you be doing? Think back five years ago and imagine back then that you had written a similar letter to yourself to be mailed to you five years in the future. What goals did you attain? What actually turned out better than you could possibly have imagined? What have you yet to accomplish or have you achieved everything you set out to do back then and have embarked on new goals?
There’s a point to this. When we set out and write these letters to our future selves, we are in fact setting a deadline to achieve our goals. It’s strange because normally when we set out our goals, we either omit to put in a deadline or just the idea of it is so scary we shy away from it. But it is a vital part of the process and puts the universe and our higher selves on alert that there is a deadline to be met here. So, if the term ‘deadline’ pushes buttons for you, what if we call it ‘lifeline’ instead? Because it implies that this not only links where you are right now with the future you are envisioning for yourself, but that it keeps you on course towards this over a given time period. Doesn’t that sound like its art of the process as opposed to a ticking clock or schedule you have to adhere to – or else fail miserably?
So, take a moment now to think about where you want to be in a year’s time. Now, get out your journal and write this down in note form to begin with. We will get to the lifeline letter later. Look at what you’ve written down and think about it for a moment. What are you doing right NOW about achieving these goals? Most importantly, ask yourself why you are trying to achieve them. What need to they fill for you? Is there a goal behind your goal or is there another goal that would meet your need far more effectively? For example, let’s just say that your goal is to be on the cover of a magazine. Why do you have this goal? Is it that then you will know you have ‘made it’? Is it to make your mum proud of you or show everyone out there who has ever been mean to you or rejected you just how wrong they were? Write down all of this and do this for every goal you want to see manifest over a given period of time – this can be a year or even five years in the future. How long it is is up to you but you must have a time frame in mind – and a realistic one so please don’t opt for time frames over five years as that is in fact opting out and saying what you want is impossible.
Now, let’s go back to why you want to achieve your goals and return to the example I gave you before – you want to be on the cover of a magazine. Why? If it’s a milestone and you have designed that this is how you will know you have ‘made it’ in your field – be it Fast Company, Wired, Hello!, Rolling Stone, The Hollywood Reporter, Vogue or Forbes, can you now think of any other ways that would also give you an equal feeling of having reached the top? Now list these. Is it because you want someone’s love or approval? If so, you now have some serious thinking to do as if they don’t love and/or approve of you now, why are you so determined you need to impress them? Either you have their love now or you don’t. Becoming a billionaire or getting your photo on the cover of Vanity Fair will not change that. Don’t waste your energy trying to change other people’s opinions about you. The only opinion that matters is yours.
If you want that goal for yourself however, keep it on your list. If not reject it. This is all part of the Lifeline process and it’s not just about setting deadlines but a Lifeline is just that – it supports you. Apply this process to all your goals. Once you have completed your goal list it’s now time to weave that Lifeline. Write that letter to yourself putting the future date you have decided on at the top of the letter. State not only your goals but the things you started doing to achieve them as in ‘I started back in August 2015 by doing research on the companies I should approach and then come up with a strategy to contact them’.
When you have done, sign and seal your letter, address it to yourself and give it to a friend or relative you trust to mail it to you on your future date (write this on the envelope). You have now created not a deadline but a Lifeline between your present and your future destination. You may be surprised when you receive your letter not only how things turned out – but how much better they turned out than you could possibly have imagined. But it was being committed and setting that Lifeline that set it all in motion! Be prepared to take whatever actions you need for success and above all, be determined to step into that new future you have created right now.
Colour your destiny – Draw your treasure map!

I’m sure you’ve seen the huge range of adult colouring books that are flooding the market now. They are being promoted as tool to de-stress ourselves from our busy lives and also to connect us back to our creativity and the kind of fun and joy we experienced as children. Yes, being a ‘grown-up’ can result in us being stressed out and too serious.
If you’ve a yen to pick up your colouring pencils or paints and re-connect to the creative child within again, then what if I told you there was a way to combine all this with setting and achieving your goals? After all, every step you take towards your goals should excite you and ignite your passion. The journey should be the goal as well as the goal itself and every stage should be filed with fun, creativity and an expanding sense of achievement!
Ready to colour in your future? You will need a sketch book or plain unlined paper and colouring pencils or pens in lots of different colours as well as the desire to connect to the child within. What we are going to create is a Colour Vision Board or Map to Your Dreams. Now, remember back to when you used to draw and paint when you were a small child. You just loved the process and the colours, right? You didn’t sit there criticising your artistic abilities – you just immersed yourself in the process. So, before you begin please ditch the art critic. This isn’t about creating an artistic masterpiece but it IS about enjoying yourself and using that emotion to empower you to create your future.
Pick a goal that’s important to you right now. This can be anything from losing weight to meeting that new lover to landing that dream job or owning your own home. Pick a colour and write that goal in the middle of the page. Ensure this is something positive and don’t phrase things in a negative way. Don’t say ‘I need to lose weight’ – instead phrase is as ‘I am living a healthier lifestyle’
Now, think of something you can do to move towards that goal and taking up a new colour draw a branch off to the next point. If we take the above example your next stage might be ‘I am eating so many healthy and delicious foods’. Use colours, draw symbols or objects to illustrate this – anything that springs to mind and makes it personal for you.
Here’s where you get to unleash your creativity and start to have fun! Draw more branches off your central goal for actions you can take – anything from ‘Stop stressing about the small stuff!’ to ‘Go for a walk no matter what the weather is like’ – and again illustrate this. Also, write and illustrate how you are going to feel when you take these steps and make this as colourful as you like.
Don’t judge what you are writing or drawing or you will get in the way of your own process. As you continue to draw more ways of achieving your goal will occur to you so don’t be afraid to go on to another piece of paper if they do and you might want to leave a space to add any other thoughts that come to you later one.
This kind of colouring can be addictive so be warned! You can try this technique for any of your goals, if you feel stuck in an area of your life, if you want to change a habit or your thinking. If you like your results then put up your maps where you can see them every day and they will keep you on track to your dreams or you can just refer to your sketch book whenever you want to. Colour in your life and your goals, de-stress and create the results you’ve always dreamed of!

Has Science Proved the Existence of Genetic Memory?

For centuries mystics, philosophers and astrologers have pondered the existence of ‘family karma’ – memories and experiences handed down the family line from one generation to the next. Certainly, few of us on the mystical path would doubt that it exists as we see stories being replayed across generations. There is also much written about releasing family karma and healing the family line and that is undoubtedly the kind of soul work many people embark on.
Now new studies undertaken by a research team at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital point to the fact that on a genetic level, trauma experienced by one generation is handed down to the next and subsequent ones. They discovered that the experiences of holocaust survivors resulted in dramatic changes to their DNA which resulted in them passing this on to their children. It used to be thought that only biological information was transmitted by our DNA but the study showed that children of people who had either been interred in a concentration camp, had had to hide or had seen or experienced torture, were more likely to experience stress disorders themselves than the children of Jewish parents who were outside of Europe during the war. This is known scientifically as ‘epigenetic inheritance’ which is the theory that other influences such as stress, trauma, environment, diet, smoking, drug use etc can be passed on genetically to subsequent generations.
The team identified one region of a gene that has been identified as linked to stress hormones. This determines the way we cope with our environment and challenges we may encounter. So, it follows if the gene is compromised we will be at a disadvantage ourselves if faced with stressful or traumatic situations. Other studies have also explored this link one of which showed that girls born to Dutch women who were pregnant during the extreme famine that occurred in Holland at the end of WWII were at an above-average risk of developing schizophrenia. The same links were not discovered in control groups in either study.
It seems family karma and wounds literally are passed on in our genes. We can therefore ask ourselves how much we are living that is our story and how much is our family’s? Marcus Pembrey, emeritus professor of paediatric genetics at University College London explains: ‘What we’re getting here is the very beginnings of a understanding of how one generation responds to the experiences of the previous generation. It’s fine-tuning the way your genes respond to the world.’
So, doing healing work on an inter-generational level can be an important step on our soul path. When we understand our family story, we come closer to understanding ourselves and not only that, we are then in a position to change our family karma – and what we hand down, for good.

Urban Shaman: Take a Vision Quest

We’ve all heard the term ‘vision quest’ which forms part of many beliefs systems from Native American spirituality to Buddhism. Even Christ went on a vision quest and this journey has long been associated with finding one’s true path or purpose, a rite of passage from childhood to adulthood, or getting in touch with one’s animal or spirit guides. In today’s busy world, for many of us the mere idea of a vision quest seems either an impossible dream or just not relevant to the times – who we are and how we live.
Certainly, if we live in an urban environment, the concept of wandering off alone into the wilderness to commune with spirit guides appears unrealistic to say the least if you inhabit a space filled with hundreds or thousands of other people. However, we can say that city dwellers – in other words those striving to be Urban Shaman, are those who are likely to benefit the most from this practice.
You don’t have to be outside to Vision Quest
If you live in a city, chances are you have parks and green spaces available – which are filled with other people. If being alone in the open air is impossible, then create the space to quest indoors. How you create this is up to you and your higher self will guide you. You may want to bring the outdoors inside for example by brining in flowers or plants. Hanging up a picture of a landscape is another way you can create that connection to nature. Have a notebook or pen to hand as well.
If you are lucky enough to live somewhere where you can be in nature undisturbed or if you have decided to travel out of the city to undertake your quest then do pack water, and wear comfortable and warm clothing. Again, your higher self will guide you to the best location to start your quest if you have chosen to be outside.
Open Yourself to Spiritual Guidance
The main purpose of any vision quest is of course to hear the messages our spirit guides have for us. It’s always a good idea before embarking on your quest to know what you want to ask and what is most important to you. Vision quest questions are not about the things we want or outcomes we desire. So, it’s no use asking if your ex will come back to you or when you’re going to land that better paying job! Vision quests are intended to hand us answers to life’s big questions such as: What is my soul path or purpose? Why am I here? How can I overcome my fears and doubts? What do I need to know?
When you are ready to begin – either because you have arrived at your chosen location or have prepared your sacred space indoors, please ensure you won’t be disturbed. Turn off your phone and if you are at home ensure you do this at a time when no-one is likely to call round. If you are at home you can put on some ambient music. If you outside then tune into the sounds of nature – the wind, the sound of birds or the sea. Take a deep breath and as you begin to relax and become one with the space around you, notice where in your body’s energy system (your chakras) you feel the most connected to the space around you. Don’t over-think this one, it is the first spot that comes into your head! Imagine that this is your doorway to the spirit world through which all your answers will come.
What colour is this doorway? What season do you associate with it? What plants, flowers or animals? What kind of people? What kind of landscape? Like the one you are in or somewhere entirely different? Allow images and ideas to come to you now – don’t censor them and let your imagination roam free and make as many connections as it wants to. You will find however that it will latch on to one or a combination of several – you might have thought about a certain type of landscape, a certain animal or person and now may see an vision that incorporates these in front of you.
This is your sacred space and your guide(s) come to meet you. Have your questions ready but bear in mind that your guide may not speak but you may hear their voice in your head. Spend as long as you need talking to your guide and when you are finished, remember to thank them. Take a deep breath and then return to where you are.
While it is all still fresh in your mind, write everything down in your journal. You may find you recall many more details than you think. Be sure to write down the answers you received as this was your goal for taking the quest, after all!
Now you have accomplished your vision quest, if you did travel to a location there is no need in future for you to go back there to re-connect to your guide as you will be able to do this anywhere. I even know one Urban Shaman who managed this on a commuter train!
The benefits of a vision quest are available to us anywhere, but we are the ones who have to take that first step on our journey – even if it’s just from our own lounge room.

Healing Loneliness with soul time.

How much do you really like and love yourself? We talk a lot about self-esteem, self-worth and loving ourselves but are you like so many of us guilty of not walking your talk when it comes to this all-important issue?
It’s really easy for us to send on contrary messages to the universe without even thinking that we are. The fact is, we’re all excused to some degree because the media works against us here. Let me give you an example of how easy it is to fall into this trap. Let’s say for example that your biggest personal goal right now is to attract that all-important and above all, serious new love interest in.
You’ve worked through a lot of stuff to get to this position – having taken the lessons from your past relationships and used these to not just identify what you really need in a significant other but you have been doing some deep inner work on your ability to receive love too. However, if we are on our own let’s face it we are constantly bombarded by images of ‘happy’ couples in the media and in our entertainment.
Not only through these do we become focussed on what we don’t have (i.e: one of these ‘perfect’ relationships), we then spend our down-time glued to social media, the internet, our smartphones or trying to fill every available minute with some kind of ‘connection’. Now, I’m not saying that this is wrong, but if you can’t stand your own company despite you affirming how much you love yourself, what message do you think this sends out there to the universe – or to a prospective mate for that matter?
Most spiritual practices emphasise the need for solitude. We don’t need to go on a retreat in order to experience the benefits of this on our mind, body and soul. What’s more, we’re often made to feel ashamed if we are spending time on our own – we must be failures, unable to form close personal ties or worse – inflicted with the 21st century’s silent epidemic – loneliness. No wonder if we look at it this way we start to do everything we can to not spend time in our own company!
But what if we took a different approach to all this? What if we started to see what I call ‘Soul Time’ as a way to lead a happier, more fulfilled life? And in doing so if say attracting more people into our lives is our goal – whether it’s one specific person or just friends, we put ourselves in a position to do just that?
So, when you find yourself with time on your hands, embrace this as a gift. Don’t want for someone to come along so you can enjoy yourself – you now have the time to do something you love right now! Read a book, go for a walk, start a craft or creative project, learn a skill or a sport. Connect back to the child within you who would happily play by themselves for hours by doing something you love and can lose yourself in so time just falls away.
If your life is just too frantic then why not schedule in your ‘Soul Time’? Read my article on Psychic fitness but doing a 20 minute psychic workout because 20 minutes is all you need. If a psychic workout doesn’t appeal, set your alarm and do something else you love for just 20 minutes. You will be amazed at how much you can get done in such a short period of time – and be more happy and energised as a result.
Unplug yourself. Stay away from your phone or your social media and set aside a time each day when you will unplug yourself. You can start with say an hour. Commit to doing something you’ve been wanting to do but telling yourself that you don’t have the time for it.
Notice how you feel during this time. Did you think about what was happening on your Twitter feed or did you not worry or just not think about it as much as you thought you would? As you notice yourself thinking about your phone or Facebook less and less as you immerse yourself in other things, increase the time you spend away from them.
Don’t wait for that person – do it! Do you not go to see movies, exhibitions, concerts or even travel because you are waiting for that person to turn up in order to have these experiences with? Don’t. Whether it’s having the courage to dine solo at that new restaurant you’ve been dying to try, or taking that trip to Thailand on your own, do it and do it as soon as you can. You are the person you’ve been waiting for and by really becoming that person, you will just attract more people like you.
So, embrace Soul Time and send out a consistent message to the universe – and have the time of your life while doing it!
