Jayne ponders the wonders of caffeine

[image error] Ah, that morning cup of caffeine. They say it's the most popular drug in the world.
Coffee, of course, is the first drink that most people think of when they think morning .
I get my morning lift from tea -- green tea -- and I drink my tea strong. I'll drink coffee if there is no alternative but it is definitely not my first choice. I just don't care for the taste. Also, I find the jolt from coffee is a bit too powerful for me. (I know, that's heresy here in Coffee Town, USA...

Blog of Photos
I hope you'll forgive this "blog of photos." It's all I could come up with! :-)
I've done a lot of travel recently, when I probably should ...

Authors in Motion tour!
Wow, what a crazy but fun week it's been in our household! Our daughter was "hooded" (for her PhD in history) in Boston on Friday, our son graduated from college in northern Vermont on Sunday (degrees in digital media and graphic design) and our little guy, Leo, turned one on Monday. We've had so much fun but I'm a little late with my blog today.
I wanted to alert readers in the Chicago/Milwaukee area that I'll be joining authors Emilie Richards, Susan Mallery, Gena Showalter and Rachel...

PERIL IN PARADISE!
Good morning, my flowers: [image error]
First peril, weight gain. A month of wearing loose clothes and living on licorice and bananas can only end one way–bigger. Not to worry, tomorrow I diet.
I've spent several weeks supposedly unwinding after a really busy, long work period. Nick Montrachet (from OUT OF SIGHT) has done his best to interfere, so I've let him. Now I've spent enough time listening to his hopes and woes to be ready to tell his story and I'll be into that when I get home tomorrow, or maybe...

Endings and Beginnings...
There's nothing more exciting--or terrifying--than staring at a blank screen and knowing that I have to think of 85,000 to 120,000 or so words (depending on the series I'm working on) that will all come together and make like a book...you know...beginning, middle, ending? Characters. Plot? Yep...all that stuff. I do it at least four times a year, and have been since around the end of 2005, and I realized today that, while every beginning feels different and completely unique, the endings...

A love letter to my mom.
I've always felt lucky to have you as my mother. You were a steady, stable influence in my life, showing me by example what was important and what was just. . . stuff. I mostly appreciated that, even if you sometimes made m[image error]e do things I didn't like. Okay, I still don't get the not letting me quit Brownies until I "flew up" to the Girl Scouts. You know I wasn't cut out for that organization.
Yeah, yeah, I know what you'd be saying if you were still you. "Get over it."

Jayne and a Trilogy Within Arcane

Regulars here at RWQ will know that I'm in the middle of my first trilogy-with-Arcane. This would be the Dreamlight Trilogy which crosses over between all three of my names. Two down (FIRED UP and BURNING LAMP are now out) and one to go: MIDNIGHT CRYSTAL (August).I knew this would be a complicated trilogy to follow and sure enough a lot of new readers who are just discovering me with this series are asking me to explain. I admit, the Arcane series isn't the easiest series to track because...

Animal Love!
Did that subject header get your attention? I hope so. Those little doggies you see in the banner with me are my own precious pets, Tootsie and Brock. Many of you know that little Brock (only 5 lbs) is ailing. He's a grumpy old man who is mostly deaf, blind, has some joint issues and congestive heart failure. Three times a day he gets medicine (mixed with a smidge of peanut butter to make it go down easy) and four times a day he gets ointment in his eyes. It's rare for me to travel anywhere...

Carla on "happy" places
Today is a beautiful spring day in Vermont. Just gorgeous! Our thoughts are with family and friends in middle Tennessee as they clean up after the severe flooding there. As many of you know, my husband grew up just east of Nashville. We've been following reports of the damage, as well of how people are pulling together. Just one example of the spirit of Tennesseans is Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and Museum. We're members from afar, and it's one of our "must stops" on our visits to Nashville...
