Thinking about family...
My apologies for a late post, but it's been "one of those" weeks and I just haven't quite gotten it all together. Embarrassing, really, to admit, especially since the week is over and we're starting a new one, but we've had family visiting and everything else sort of takes second stage when the grandkids are around.Which, this morning, has me thinking about family. Our son and his family flew in from Hawaii and planned their entire vacation (with a two year old and a four year old) around a f...

Belated happy 4th!
We missed out on wishing you all a happy 4th of July! Hope yours was fabUlous. Here in the Pacific Northwest it was cold and wet. Now, Seattle summers histori [image error] cally begin on the 5th of July, but we usually have a week or two of gorgeous weather in May to help get us through until then. Not so this year. In fact yesterday, which turned out nice in the afternoon I spent scrubbing moss and mold off my back steps and off my fence (where I could reach, anyway--I should have done this in the Spring ...

Jayne Ponders Romantic-Suspense

I heard there was a rumor going around that romantic-suspense is dead. That's nonsense, of course. It's going full-throttle at the moment. In fact, it has never been stronger. You may not recognize it because a lot of it is currently being written against a paranormal or Urban Fantasy backdrop. But the fresh, new landscapes don't change the underlying core story which is solidly romantic-suspense. A number of Quills write paranormal romantic-suspense: Kate Douglas, Stella Cameron and...

Friends to Lovers…Reunited Lovers…Star Crossed…
Hey everyone! I'm off in my RV, finishing up a book and celebrating my 32nd wedding anniversary. Mostly finishing up a book. :-)
Good friend and mega talented author Shiloh Walker agreed to guest blog today, so please give her an enormous Quill welcome!

Thanks to Lori and the rest of the Running with Quills gang for letting me crash their blog.

I want to talk about tropes. You know, those well-known, recurring storylines that pop up in romances?
Like the ever-popular...
THE WHISPER is out! Tales from the road...
Hi from New Orleans! Although I might be in Memphis when you read this. The entire contents of my suitcase are heaped on the bed here in my hotel, and I'm repacking after 7 days on the road in 5 different hotels. I don't get home until July 11, but it's been fun so far!
Yesterday was a real treat. I got to be in a beautiful city, meeting readers and booksellers on the day THE WHISPER went on sale. We started with a TV interview. I walked into the sitting area, and there was a man asleep...

JOURNEY OF A BOOK
[image error]Good morning, my flowers:
Almost four in the early dark hours, Luciano Pavarotti singing as softly in the background as one can manage with Pavarotti, Millie at my feet--and a blank page before me.
The muddled highs and lows of the writer:)
Books are what bring us together here. Some of us write, some of us read, some of us do both, but our attraction to the written word is our common interest. Not that we don't--frequently--share a few personal life secrets that usually turn out to be shared...

It's finally out!
Wolf Tales 10 is finally out! I've been so excited about this particular book...it's not like it's my first. Far from it--counting the anthologies, this is the 19th story in the ongoing series about my sexy Chanku shapeshifters. What's different about this one, though, is that I killed off a main character.
I know...sounds pretty gruesome, but the really cool thing about writing paranormal is that dead doesn't necessarily mean gone, and in this case, dead is actually a major improvement for...

Susan Interviews Stephanie Laurens
I first got acquainted with Stephanie Laurens--as well as you can get to know someone via the Internet-- sometime in '96 or '97 on an Avon Romance Writers loop Julia Quinn had set up. We didn't meet face to face until the RWA conference in Anaheim, California in July, 1998. We've been friends pretty much ever since, although we're generally lucky to see each other once a year, as I live in the Pacific Northwest and Steph lives in, oh, Australia. Not exactly next door neighbors, don'tcha...

Jayne Interviews Sheri Brooks of Purple Papaya

I'm delighted to introduce you to Sheri Brooks of Purple Papaya. Sheri is a Personal Marketing Coordinator. What's that you ask? Well, I can tell you that she does a lot of behind the scenes work for me, important stuff that would never get done if I had to do it all myself. I thought you might enjoy meeting her here today and learning just what she does to help bring authors and readers together.*********************************************************
JAYNE: Thanks for joining us here at...

Introducing guest blogger Mingmei Yip
It's my pleasure to introduce fellow Kensington author Mingmei Yip--I've met Mingmei and read her debut novel, PEACH BLOSSOM PAVILION, and I absolutely fell in love with not only the fascinating story of the last Chinese Geisha, but Mingmei's beautiful, almost lyrical style of writing. Her second book, PETALS FROM THE SKY is staring at me, taunting me, in fact, from my overburdened TBR pile....Mingmei, thank you so much for joining us here at Running With Quills...
