We Broke 5000 in 2 1/2 Months!
Yeah, that's right-- 5000 views in the 2 1/2 month lifespan of Uncommon Sense. BOOM!
So now what?
Truth is, I'm not 100% sure. I've learned some things in the short time I've been seriously blogging:
1. My heart is not in reviewing, not even a little. I tried.
2. Interviews are fun and I'd like to do more. Feel free to e-mail me, especially if you're not a writer but otherwise involved in publishing.
3. I love talking about my experiences as a writer. People seem to respond to those posts and it g...

My Search For an Editor
Earlier this week, I was fortunate enough to correspond with a very kind and patient freelance editor.
I am in the middle of revising my second novel. Thinking ahead, as I am wont to do, I began the search for someone who could help un-clutter my story and clean up typos and oversights. My first stop was a man I met at a book signing at the local Arts Center. He was an editor at the local paper but has since moved out of state. Unfortunately, he was busy with his own projects and ref...

Why I'm Indie
I took my time. I studied their websites, agents and publishers, finding the ones who wanted a story like mine. I composed each query individually with the recipient's wants and needs in mind. It took close to two months before I finished. I sat back and waited. Two weeks became three, a couple quick form letter rejections trickled in. No big deal. I told myself that every author goes through this. A month came and went, a few more rejections -- that's just the system working like it always h...

I like to write... when I'm not busy being a writer!
Ever see Throw Mama From The Train? If so, do you remember this line? "A writer writes." While the movie was dark and quirky, that line is anything but. Can it get more simple or direct than, a writer writes?
Not really.
With that in mind, let's shift gears and talk about time management. As a writer with a full-time job and a young child, I do not write every day. I'd like to. Nothing would make me happier as a writer than to be able to lock myself away in a room for a couple ho...

Book Review - Blood of Innocence (The Virtue Chronicles Book 1)
I've noticed my previous reviews all read like love letters to the author. This time I'm going to try to rein in my tendency to gush.
I previously reviewed Brittany Adelle's debut novel Smoke Before My Eyes with a big 'ole smile on my face. It was dark, edgy, and entertaining; a plot-driven novel.
Blood of Innocence is another type of story.
Ms. Adelle retains her dark and edgy side, but brings a new element to the table. Blood of Innocence reads like literary fiction! The plot moves at an...

Author Interview - Jennifer Foehner Wells
Jennifer Foehner Wells is an Amazon best selling Science Fiction author. Her novel, Fluency, is currently #1,472 in the Kindle Store. Also, in the Kindle Store it is ranked #5 for SF novels about Space Exploration, #6 SF about Exploration, and #13 about First Contact. See my review of Fluency.
Her novelette, The Grove, is currently ranked 11,874 in the Kindle Store. You can find it here.
I've seen where you've taken some heat over the ending of Fluency; people sited a lack of resolution. Sinc...

Rejected Flash Fiction Piece from Freeze Frame Fiction
I received a rejection e-mail yesterday from Freeze Frame Fiction for the following piece. Normally I keep these in a folder to read over when my head's a little too large. This one contained very good notes from the readers so I thought I'd share it with anyone who cared to look.
The piece, as submitted:
Mob Jitters
My hand's shaking as I reach for the doorknob. I grunt, a mumbled curse sneaks past my lips. I look at myself in the huge mirror above the sink. The fluorescents give my skin...
